Butland costly in 3/10, 7/10 stands out – Rangers player ratings v Hibernian

Rangers fell to a 2-0 home defeat against Hibernian on Saturday, with Jack Butland’s error proving costly.

Barry Ferguson’s side will have the majority of their focus on the Europa League, with very little left to play for in the league, though momentum and form will still be paramount to any success.

Rangers’ lineup was bold, and it failed to pay off in the opening 45 minutes, with Hibernian taking the lead after eight minutes with what would prove to be their only shot of the half.

With 20 minutes to go, Hibernian doubled their advantage and sealed all three points at Ibrox.

Jack Butland – 3

His mistake caused Rangers to go 1-0 down. It should have been a routine save for the Englishman, but instead made a mountain for the Light Blues to climb with what proved to be a costly error.

James Tavernier – 6

Suspect at times in possession, though had very little to do on the defensive front of things.

Dujon Sterling – 7

Covered well when Hibs occasionally looked to get in behind. Showcased plenty of composure on the ball throughout the game. Didn’t put a foot wrong.

John Souttar – 6

Very tidy on the ball and was strong defensively. Perhaps lacked his usual dominance in the air and switched off for the second goal.

Jefte – 4

Jefte just had very little influence in the game. His crossing was poor at best, and the Brazilian was often wasteful in possession.

Rangers dominated Hibernian, but failed to make it count.

Vaclav Cerny – 5 (off for Bajrami 58′)

Cerny has had an excellent season, but failed to replicate that against Hibernian. Passing was often sloppy and failed to make anything work in the final third.

Connor Barron – 6

Very busy in the centre of the pitch for Rangers without doing anything much of note.

Nico Raskin – 6

Similar to Barron, he didn’t influence things overly much, but his passing was neat, and he tried to keep the tempo going.

Mohamed Diomande – 5 (for Danilo 75′)

Perhaps down to misfortune rather than anything else, Diomande gifted possession back to the visitors on several occasions while failing to offer any real creativity.

Hamza Igamane – 5 (for Hagi 88′)

Ferguson opted to play Igamane out wide, which is far from his best position. Didn’t offer an awful lot to the game aside from the occasional flash of quality.

Cyriel Dessers – 4 (for Curtis 88′)

Wasn’t for the want of trying, but Dessers failed to pose any real attacking threat for the Light Blues, miscontrolling the ball a few times in promising positions. Spent far too much time on the floor.
