Barry Ferguson ‘frustrations’ emerge at Rangers amid Ibrox transfer targets claim

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises may have a significant decision alongside Barry Ferguson once they complete their takeover at Rangers.

The Gers icon was hired on an interim basis to replace Philippe Clement until the end of the season but has seemingly become a contender to extend his stay.

Ferguson will arguably be in contention at Ibrox to become the next permanent manager once the prospective new owners arrive.

The 47-year-old head coach may already have a list of transfer targets ready at the Light Blues, but frustration could be brewing as the 49ers work to get their takeover done at Ibrox.

49ers need to start future planning at Rangers as Ferguson frustrations mooted

Ferguson’s list of transfer targets at the Glaswegian outfit may soon whittle in the coming weeks, Keith Jackson says.

The Daily Record journalist believes the players being eyed by the interim manager could potentially become unavailable due to several circumstances soon.

Jackson feels that could possibly be a frustrating prospect and has urged the US consortium to make future plans ahead of their takeover.

Ferguson’s record at the Gers this season.

Speaking on Hotline Live (3 April), the journalist said: “I’m pretty sure Ferguson will have a list of targets that he’d want to move for in the eventuality that he’s given the job. I’m also pretty sure that list, as the days turn into weeks, you need to start getting names off it because this one will have committed to another club, that one might have signed a new contract.

“That would become a frustration if you had this list and you thought, ‘Wow, that squad. Look how different that would be for next season’.

“Cavenagh and the 49ers, I’m sure they’re focused on getting the deal over the line… but if they’re sure they’re picking up the keys, there needs to be an element now of forward planning.”

Ibrox needs clarity over Ferguson future ahead of takeover

Ferguson’s record at Ibrox speaks for him, and the ex-midfielder history with the Bears evidently makes him an intriguing candidate for the permanent job.

The Gers icon has managed to beat Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers during his short spell in the dugout.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the prospective new owners opting to stick with the former Scotland international to maintain some semblance of stability ahead of next season.

Rangers are in the Europa League quarter-finals, and if they’re able to get past Athletic Bilbao, Ferguson will undoubtedly cement his standing as the next permanent manager.

The Light Blues endured an underwhelming season under Clement, but spirits among the players seem to be high since the managerial change.

While Ferguson’s record at Alloa Athletic, Kelty Hearts and Clyde FC isn’t encouraging, the Ibrox faithful have been pleased so far with what he’s done at the Glaswegian outfit.

Cavenagh and the 49ers will arguably need to reinforce the squad to compete with Celtic in the Scottish Premiership once they arrive and should already be planning to get the best deal possible.
