Rangers ‘in race against time’ as Vaclav Cerny permanent transfer update emerges

Vaclav Cerny has impressed on loan at Rangers this season but it remains to be seen if he will join from Wolfsburg on a permanent transfer.

Cerny has been an integral part of the Gers side this term, making 44 appearances across all competitions and scoring 17 goals in the process.

While Rangers have had a disappointing season, Cerny has been one of the shining lights for Barry Ferguson’s side.

Rangers have the option to sign Cerny permanently for £5.5million, but they are in a race against time to make a deal happen.

Rangers takeover uncertainty

For months, Rangers are said to be in talks for a takeover by 49ers Enterprises. In fact, the US-based group have a deal in principle which will see them buy a 51 per cent controlling stake in the Gers.

The uncertainty over when the deal will be completed is affecting Rangers’ summer transfer window plans.

If the 49ers complete the takeover before the summer transfer window, the Gers could have a huge summer war chest to invest in and strengthen the squad.

Cerny’s decision also depends on how quickly the 49ers complete the takeover as the new owners will have a say in the sporting decisions like transfer signings, player sales and which players to target in the summer.

According to Daily Mail (3 April), Rangers are in a race against time to decide on Cerny’s future as the situation demands a “speedy resolution”.

The £5.5m buy clause expires at the end of May and if the takeover isn’t complete by then, it could cast a shadow of doubt over Cerny’s permanent signing.

Hence, the Glaswegian side require a fast-track takeover to keep hold of Cerny beyond the 2024-25 season.

The Light Blues need to act quickly as a number of other sides are also interested in the Czechia international and should the May deadline pass, he’ll be available in the market.

Rangers must sign Cerny

The Gers should not think twice before signing the 27-year-old as he is a proven matchwinner that instantly elevates the team’s quality.

At £5.5m, the Czechia star is a bargain for what he could offer to Ferguson’s side. Given that Rangers are trying to bridge the gap to Celtic for next season, singing Cerny will be a step in the right direction.

There are very few players who could match his quality and output in the Scottish Premiership.
