Jose Cifuentes transfer update emerges as Rangers stance laid bare
Rangers await a summer of change at Ibrox, given the impending San Francisco 49ers’ takeover.
There are also a number of players facing uncertain futures, with midfielder Jose Cifuentes being one of them.
The Ecuador international is out on loan at Greek club Aris Thessaloniki until the end of the season.

Gers exit on the cards for Cifuentes this summer
Aris are understood to be open to the idea of signing the 24-year-old permanently this summer.
However, they do not seem willing to pay the Ibrox outfit what they actually want.
They’re asking the Glasgow giants if they could reduce their asking rate for the South American midfielder.
Club | Appearances | Starts | Goals | Yellow Cards |
Los Angeles FC | 26 | 17 | 2 | 5 |
Rangers | 20 | 14 | 0 | 0 |
Cruzeiro | 12 | 3 | 0 | 0 |
Aris | 26 | 23 | 1 | 2 |
The Super League side brought Cifuentes in on loan in August with the option to sign him for a permanent deal worth £4million at any time.
Daily Record reported on 2 April that the Greek said may not pay the £4million and could even miss out on securing his services.
Despite that, it’s understood that he is “certain” to be offloaded by the Ibrox outfit in the summer.

Rangers have multiple options with Cifuentes
If Aris opt not to sign Cifuentes permanently following his loan spell, Gers can take strategic steps to boost his transfer value.
As his deal does not run out until 2027, they could loan him out again, ideally to a competitive league like the EFL Championship or a mid-tier European club, where consistent game time can help him regain form and visibility.
Ensuring he plays regularly in a system that suits his midfield style, focusing on his work rate and passing, could showcase his potential.
Rangers could also leverage interest by emphasising his international experience with Ecuador and his time at Los Angeles FC to attract interest.
Additionally, offering a loan-to-buy deal with a modest obligation fee might entice clubs to take a chance on him.
By positioning Cifuentes in a favourable environment and marketing his strengths, the 55-time SPFL champions can maximise his value before the next transfer window.
