Allan McGregor is ‘Maniac’ as Jack Butland makes yet another mistake at Rangers

Jack Butland has come under fire at Rangers again after making another mistake against Dundee.

The goalkeeper has seen his position as number one unthreatened for some time now, but his domestic form has not been up to scratch this season, which has posed some questions over his future.

As Rangers prepare to host Hibernian on Saturday (5 April), there is no time for the goalkeeper to get too down about his latest blunder and he must be ready to go again.

Allan McGregor reaction mooted over Butland

Barry Ferguson has overseen several good Rangers results since his arrival as interim manager at Ibrox.

However, despite another victory against Dundee at the weekend, it did take until the 93rd minute for the Light Blues to win the game through Cyriel Dessers.

Hibernian will be a much tougher test, though, having gone through a huge revival under David Gray.

With that in mind, goalkeeping coach Allan McGregor will have to make sure Butland can pick himself up again and is ready to go at the weekend.

Writing in the Daily Record on 3 April, Scott Arfield shared an insight into McGregor, saying: “It’s going to be interesting to see how he recovers from that Dens mistake and especially how Greegsy goes about raising his spirits.

“I’m sure anyone who saw Allan play has a strong idea of his personality make-up – an angry maniac.”

Butland has to prove himself at Rangers

Although Butland certainly hasn’t been the only man who has performed below the expected levels this term, after another mistake, he has to be prepared to lift his levels.

McGregor may have been a maniac on the pitch, but working with an experienced goalkeeper, you can expect the pair to remain calm and work hard to raise the standards going into Saturday.

As the 49ers Enterprises look to complete a takeover in Glasgow at the end of the campaign, a new manager is expected to be appointed to take the place of Ferguson to see the Light Blues progress.

With that in mind, there could well be plenty of change at Ibrox this summer and a new boss who wishes to put his stamp on the side.

At 32-years-old, it is time for the goalkeeper to show he certainly is not past his best and could be part of the new era going forward.
