Ranger transfer news: Danilo exit update emerges

Rangers striker Danilo has struggled with fitness issues since his move to Ibrox in 2023.

Signed with plenty of intrigue for a £6million fee, the Brazilian has failed to live up to his billing for the Light Blues.

Thus far, the 25-year-old has just made 41 first-team appearances for Rangers as he’s faced injury issues.

Cyriel Dessers comparison made as Daily Record moot Danilo exit

Cyriel Dessers has often come under criticism for the chances he misses, but his goal-scoring record is still commendable.

Scoring 45 goals in 100 games for Gers is a decent return especially when one considers his price tag and the conditions he was signed under.

On the other hand, Danilo was expected to be a Golden Boot contender and the top goal scorer for the 55-time league champions each season.

He has had issues with his fitness and even when he’s been available, he has failed to find the back of the net on a regular basis.

The Daily Record wrote in their report on 2 April: “Cyriel Dessers is an easy target for Rangers fans but it’s just as well the Ibrox side don’t have to rely on £6m flop Danilo.

“The Brazilian striker seems to escape criticism despite the fact he’s rarely been available since his big-money move from Feyenoord.

“Dessers has more than repaid his price tag with 45 goals in a century of games, Gers should look to recoup what they can for his teammate.”

Rangers could look to cash in on Danilo in the summer

Danilo must significantly step up his performance in the final two months of the 2024-25 season to justify his £6million price tag and secure his future at Rangers.

The Brazilian striker, who arrived with high expectations in 2023, has been hampered by fitness issues and managed only 41 appearances, with a meager goal tally that falls far short of his anticipated role.

If Danilo fails to impress by consistently scoring and proving his reliability, Gers may look to offload him in the summer transfer window.

Given his lacklustre record and injury concerns, the club might only recoup £3 to £4million – a significant loss but a pragmatic move to cut ties.

This would allow the Ibrox outfit to reinvest in a more dependable striker to lead their attack in the upcoming season.

It will also depend on who the new manager is and whether or not he thinks Danilo can fit into his system.
