Rangers transfer news: Huge Cyriel Dessers exit claim emerges

Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers was linked with a transfer away in the January transfer window.

However, despite his inconsistent performances, the Nigeria international ended up staying put at Ibrox.

It still remains unclear as to whether or not he will be in Glasgow ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Tam McManus issues Dessers exit verdict

Tam McManus admits that he is a fan of the 30-year-old and that the club will have a decision to make on his future in the summer.

He also spoke about the aforementioned interest shown in him in January and believes that the same clubs are likely to be interested in the coming months.

McManus told PLZ Soccer on 31 March at 7:41: “I like him. I think he’s a good player and Rangers will have a decision to make in the summer. There was a bit of interest in January.

“I think there’ll be the same teams sniffing about in the summer. It’s whether Rangers feel as if they can cash in now and get a good fee for him or they see him long-term scoring goals for Rangers.”

Rangers need to formulate concrete transfer plans

If Gers cannot secure a clear upgrade on Dessers in the summer transfer window, they might opt to retain the 30-year-old striker, especially given his decent goal-scoring record despite his inconsistency.

Dessers, as noted by McManus, has attracted interest from clubs in Italy, but with two years left on his contract, Rangers hold a strong negotiating position and may only cash in if the offer aligns with their valuation, potentially around £4-5million.

However, the situation is complicated by Danilo’s lack of progress as the £6million signing’s minimal impact due to injuries and poor form under three managers highlights a pressing issue.

If Danilo fails to improve, Rangers may need to offload either him or Dessers to free up wages and squad space for a more reliable forward.

Additionally, the future of Hamza Igamane adds another layer of uncertainty, as the 22-year-old striker has drawn interest from Premier League clubs.

Should Igamane depart, Rangers might lean towards keeping Dessers for squad depth, but a strategic overhaul of their attacking options seems inevitable to bolster their competitiveness in the 2025-26 season.

Hopefully, once the takeover is finalised, there will be more clarity on the club’s plans and their ideas for the players currently linked with an exit.
