‘Ferguson to jump before being pushed’ as Rangers ‘let down’ update emerges

Barry Ferguson could already be considering a Rangers exit ahead of the end of the campaign.

The former midfielder came into Ibrox on a temporary basis to replace Philippe Clement after he was unsurprisingly sacked in February.

It is fair to say that the Scot has had a positive impact in Govan, securing Europa League progress and an Old Firm win away at Celtic Park.

Regardless of all this positivity, the 47-year-old could be assessing his options in G51 before the end of the season.

Ferguson could exit Rangers early

The former Alloa Athletic coach has been a breath of fresh air at Ibrox since coming in, but is still only in charge on an interim basis.

This could see Paraag Marathe and the 49ers make a decision over the head coach once their takeover goes through.

That could see Ferguson remain in his post after what has been a superb spell, but the Scot could be in line to take matters into his own hands.

There has been a general lack of success in Govan since the departure of Steven Gerrard with multiple managers being sacked as performances continuously got worse.

Scott McDermott believes Ferguson could be set to face a similar fate, and that could see him jump before he is pushed at Ibrox.

Writing in the Daily Record (1 April), he said:”Ferguson wasn’t fooled – and neither should anyone else. Because there’s one thing you know for certain about this group of players. The minute you start to believe in them or think they’ve turned a corner, they will invariably let you down.

“As soon as you show confidence in them or feel they’ve cracked it, they’ll throw you under a bus soon enough. That’s not an opinion, it’s a fact. It’s this Rangers team’s MO.”

Ferguson to take risk at Rangers

It is fair to say that the role as head coach of the Light Blues is always going to be difficult but Ferguson is giving it a good go right now.

As has been the case under the likes of Clement and Giovanni van Bronckhorst, there is every chance that things could go south quickly.

Despite there not being a sign of that after Cyriel Dessers inspired the G51 club to a 4-3 comeback win against Dundee, that doesn’t mean it won’t happen in the near future.

It will be interesting to see if Ferguson feels as if his fate is already sealed in Govan and takes the opportunity to move on himself before his job is pulled from beneath him.
