Kris Boyd destroys Rangers striker Danilo after what happened

Kris Boyd has been less than impressed with what he’s seen from Rangers striker Danilo.

Under Barry Ferguson, the 25-year-old has seldom been the go to man to lead the attack for the new interim manager.

Despite him deploying a two-striker system, the Brazilian has struggled to get regular minutes from the start.

Cyriel Dessers has been better than Danilo for Rangers – Boyd

Boyd has come to the rescue of Cyriel Dessers, who, in his view, seems to be unfairly criticised.

He has defended the Nigeria international’s goal-scoring record and has stated that he gets a lot of stick for the type of chances that he misses.

While he has attributed Danilo’s injuries, he still expects more from the striker.

Boyd told the Sun: “For me, I think it’s the type of chances that Cyriel Dessers misses. I think he’s a scorer of good goals. I don’t think he’s a natural finisher but his numbers are decent.

“You do feel kind of sorry for him sometimes because he is going to get criticised for the chances he misses. He won’t throw in the towel. He’ll always go back for more/

“As I said, for me, there’s other people in that dressing room that can’t be pulling their weight. Danilo is the obvious one.

“£6million, he’s hardly kicked a ball. Now it’s three managers as well and I know he’s had injuries. Barry has played two up front in the games so I’d expect more from Danilo.”

Danilo must quickly up his game at Ibrox

Boyd’s assessment of Danilo’s underwhelming stint at Ibrox is spot-on, as the £6million signing from Feyenoord has failed to justify his hefty price tag.

Since joining in 2023, the Brazilian has been plagued by injuries, including a broken jaw and a freak knee injury, limiting his appearances and impact.

Across three managers – Michael Beale, Philippe Clement and now Barry Ferguson – Danilo has barely featured, reflecting a magre return for a striker expected to lead the line.

His 14 goals in all competitions for Feyenoord in his final season there set high expectations, but at Rangers, he’s struggled to adapt, with only glimpses of potential in recent games.

To turn things around, the 25-year-old must focus on regaining consistent fitness and proving his worth in a two-striker system by leveraging his ability to play with his back to goal and create space for teammates.

By staying injury-free, improving his goal tally and showing the same tenacity as Dessers in front of goal, Danilo can finally deliver the impact Gers envisioned when they signed him.
