Jose Mourinho ‘susses out’ Rangers job on Ibrox visit – Exclusive

Jose Mourinho remains the highest-profile name linked with the Rangers manager’s job, and the Portuguese may have already “sussed out” the position.

The perennial trophy winner is one of a handful of names to have been repeatedly touted as a contender to land the top job at Ibrox.

Mourinho recently talked up the prospect of managing Rangers or Celtic ahead of his Fenerbahce side losing to the Gers in the last 16 of the Europa League.

And in the view of player-turned-pundit Derek Ferguson – brother of current boss Barry Ferguson – Mourinho may have already put out some feelers with regards to the position.

Mourinho goes on Rangers charm offensive

Mourinho not only talked up the prospect of one day managing the Gers – or indeed fierce rivals Celtic – but he also saluted Rangers supporters at Ibrox after his side’s penalty shootout loss this month.

The 62-year-old also went down to the home dressing room at Ibrox in a behind-the-scenes move, which Ferguson believes could point towards him getting a feel for what it would be like to manage the Light Blues one day.

“What he did at full-time and his comments, I think he recognises that Rangers are a big club. And you know what, he might just fancy it,” Ferguson exclusively told Ibrox News.

He came down to congratulate Barry in the home dressing room. He might have done that to suss it out. He’s Box Office.

If Barry didn’t get the job, would I want Mourinho in charge? Absolutely. He was cute and clever with his actions, but I do think he was getting a feel for it.

He knows what Rangers is all about; it was a wee ‘reccy’ for him. I get the impression from the people there that he was sussing the job out. You never know with this takeover on the way.”

Ferguson has done a very good job since replacing Philippe Clement, most recently steering Rangers to a dramatic 4-3 win at Dundee.

The league form has improved, most notably with a famous win away at Celtic, while Ferguson has also overcome Mourinho‘s Fenerbahce in the Europa League.

All Ferguson can do is continue winning games, and then the debate over who will be the next Gers manager will soon go away as the Gers will have no choice but to hand him a full-time deal.
