Rangers news: Chris Jack shares where Ferguson ranks on list of next manager
Rangers have a significant decision to make on who their next manager will be after appointing Barry Ferguson temporarily.
The Gers icon took charge of the Glaswegian outfit on an interim basis after Philippe Clement’s sacking.
Ferguson has shown his capabilities at Ibrox in recent weeks after picking up some impressive results home and away.
The Light Blues are in the quarter-finals of the Europa League after beating Fenerbahce, and got the better of Celtic at Parkhead, with the former Scotland international’s change in tactics working wonders.

Ferguson not on top of Rangers list to be next permanent manager
Ferguson may not be at the top of the list to become the next permanent manager at Ibrox, Chris Jack says.
The Scottish journalist believes the Gers icon must still prove himself to stay at the Light Blues beyond this season.
Jack feels the former Scotland international will need a convincing performance against the Athletic Club in the Europa League and domestically to stake a claim as the Glaswegian outfit’s head coach.

Speaking on the Rangers Review (28 March), the journalist said: “I think [Ferguson] is in the conversation, but for me, he’s still not at the top of the list. There’s a lot he still needs to do because that new manager bounce is the nagging fear in the back of your head.
“We’ve seen this with previous iterations of this Rangers squad. That’s what they’ve done over previous seasons. A manager has come in at a certain point, there’s been this kind of immediate pick-up and this kind of hope for the future, and it can turn sour as quickly.
“I think Barry [Ferguson] will need to get through Athletic or come very close to it and win the next Old Firm game. And potentially not drop two points between now and the end of the domestic season.”
Ibrox faithful to demand Ferguson continuity if they beat Athletic
In some people’s eyes, Ferguson has already done enough at Ibrox to hand him the reins for the upcoming campaign.
The interim boss has changed the Glaswegian outfit’s style of play to their betterment, playing five defenders at the back.
Billy Dodds, Allan McGregor and Neil McCann are also part of the temporary managerial setup at the Light Blues, seemingly bringing a fighting spirit to the team.
Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprise are in talks to take over at Rangers, and their potential arrival will evidently determine what the future holds for Ferguson.
The Bears have lagged behind Celtic in recent years and may need a more experienced coach to take them back to the top.
Steven Gerrard was the last manager to lift the Scottish Premiership title at Ibrox, and the Liverpool legend’s arrival could arguably be a tempting option for the prospective new owners.
The ex-English midfielder has a successful track record at the Light Blues, but supporters have taken a liking to Ferguson.
How the managerial saga at the Glaswegian outfit unfolds remains to be seen.
