Vaclav Cerny mooted to leave Ibrox this summer – Boyd

Boyd has slammed Gers for leaving things too late in order to finalise an agreement to sign Vaclav Cerny.

The 27-year-old moved from Wolfsburg in the summer and has been among the first names on the team sheet for Rangers.

He has contributed consistently in the final third at a time when the rest of his teammates have mostly been inconsistent.

Boyd wrote in the Scottish Sun: “When it comes to Cerny, though, I wonder if Rangers have left it too late to get a deal done with Wolfsburg for the Czech.

“He’s been exceptional. In a team that has struggled so badly domestically, he has shown himself to be a class act. But it’s typical of the club’s recruitment that a permanent deal hasn’t been written in stone before now.

“Rangers? They sign loan players then watch as values soar and they become too pricey to keep.

“Remember Abdallah Sima? Or Malik Tillman? They came to Ibrox for first-team football only to pack their bags and move on to Champions League clubs elsewhere.

“If Gers have some sort of gentleman’s agreement to sign Cerny for £5.5million this summer, hopefully they will get that done.

“But if it’s not there in black and white, I fear his days at Ibrox are numbered.”

NFL giants 49ers are likely to make an attempt to keep Cerny at Rangers

Rangers cannot be entirely blamed for not securing a permanent deal for Cerny from Wolfsburg, as the Light Blues are currently navigating a significant transition with an impending takeover by the San Francisco 49ers.

This ownership change, expected to be finalised in the coming weeks, naturally shifts focus away from immediate transfer decisions, as the incoming owners will likely want to assess the squad and align signings with their long-term vision.

Cerny, a standout performer on loan this season, has been a bright spot in an otherwise inconsistent Gers side, but pinning the delay in his permanent transfer solely on the club’s recruitment strategy overlooks the broader context.

With the takeover looming, it’s reasonable to assume that major financial commitments, like a £5.5million deal for Cerny, are on hold until the new regime settles in, although he’s expected to cost more.

The 49ers, known for strategic planning in their NFL operations, are likely to prioritise retaining Cerny if the manager deems him essential, leveraging their resources to finalize a deal post-takeover.

Past examples like Sima and Tillman highlight recruitment pitfalls, but the current uncertainty stems more from timing than negligence, giving Rangers a plausible defense for the delay.
