Chris Sutton slams ‘lazy’ Dujon Sterling after what he did in Rangers win v Dundee
Chris Sutton was baffled after a moment involving Dujon Sterling in Rangers’ 4-3 win over Dundee.
Barry Ferguson‘s side looked resigned to defeat after going down 3-1 in the Scottish Premiership clash at Dens Park.
However, the Gers turned it round through goals from James Tavernier, Tom Lawrence, and a last-gasp Cyriel Dessers strike.

Sutton left stunned after what Sterling did v Dundee
Sterling put in a decent-enough performance for Rangers despite the frantic nature of the Dundee clash, but he had a few moments where he could have done better.
The 25-year-old was in no man’s land as Jack Butland dropped the ball for Joe Shaughnessy to double the hosts’ lead and was bullied in the build-up to the third goal.
Sutton took particular exception to his involvement in the second goal and believes that the Gers defender could have anticipated what happened.
Speaking live on Sky Sports Football (29 March, 19:48), he said: “I think Sterling when he comes out, I think he is really lazy there.
“Butland should do better, but Sterling should expect a ball being popped in behind and be ready for that.
“He is just really lax with his defending, and then you know, Shaughnessy is onside in the end when he pops it in.”

Rangers need to tighten up at the back
Ferguson needs to ensure that his side is better defensively if they are to win the Europa League and turn a dismal season into a great one.
The shadows of Philippe Clement’s reign remain with the Gers struggling to keep clean sheets recently, despite the huge transformation.
Rangers last six matches | Result |
Kilmarnock | 2-4 (W) |
Motherwell | 1-2 (L) |
Fenerbahce | 1-3 (W) |
Fenerbahce | 0-2 (L) |
Celtic | 2-3 (W) |
Dundee | 3-4 (W) |
The Gers have conceded 12 goals in their six matches in all competitions in Ferguson’s small reign in charge and need to tighten up if they are to reach the final in Bilbao.
Athletic Bilbao will represent a tough test in the quarter-finals, and the Light Blues’ defensive woes recently will give the Spanish outfit confidence that they can beat the Govan side.
If the Gers get through that tie, then they will face much better opposition in the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United, where they will have to be solid defensively.
Ferguson has improved the atmosphere around Ibrox and Auchenhowie, but he needs to prove that he can do the same to the Light Blues’ porous defence.
He needs the likes of Sterling and John Souttar to stand up and be counted in the final stages of the campaign, otherwise all his good work will be for nothing.
