Chris Sutton blasts ‘laughable’ reaction after what’s happened at Rangers

Chris Sutton isn’t pleased with some of the reactions he’s seen as Rangers have found their feet under Barry Ferguson.

The Gers icon became interim manager after Patrick Stewart sacked Philippe Clement.

Ferguson initially struggled in the Ibrox dugout but has proven his credentials after beating Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers in a matter of weeks.

The Light Blues travelled to Parkhead and beat Celtic 3-2 in the Old Firm derby on 16 March after a late goal from Hamza Igamane, handing the visitors the bragging rights.

Rangers win v Celtic leads to knee-jerk reaction

Sutton has blasted some of the knee-jerk reactions after the Bears beat the Hoops away from home.

The ex-Celtic striker believes Rodgers’ team could’ve ended up winning the game despite being poor and going down two goals in the first half.

Sutton feels the conversations have again turned towards the Gers being back, although the negativity around the Bhoys is laughable.

The Englishman wrote in the Daily Record (29 March): “But having lost to Rangers a fortnight ago, you’d think they were rubbish and in need of a total rebuild. Yes, they lost the derby, and all the talk is about how Rangers are back — yet again.

“In reality though, at 2-2 there only looked one winner and it could quite easily have ended up a victory despite not playing their best.

“Instead, Rangers went up and grabbed a goal of their own to get the bragging rights for a few weeks. Fair enough, that’s how it goes. Some of the knee-jerking has been pretty laughable, but that’s how it works in these parts.”

Ferguson has rattled Celtic after Parkhead triumph

Ferguson’s heroics at Ibrox since taking over as interim boss could arguably put him in place to become the next permanent manager.

The former Scotland international should be in contention to remain beyond this season after what he’s done.

Andrew Cavengah and 49ers Enterprises have a big decision to make regarding Ferguson’s future, but they won’t want to rush into anything.

The US consortium could potentially take over Rangers before the end of the season, and the fans will have high expectations of them.

Celtic have been miles ahead of the Gers in terms of quality over the years, and the Americans must bring parity to the Scottish game once they arrive.

The Light Blues have won just one league title in the last decade, with the Glaswegian outfit’s financial crisis deepening.

Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe must ensure the Bears get back to winning ways, but that will require astute management from top to bottom and seemingly a lot of investment in the squad.

The Gers have beaten Celtic twice in a row now, and the Ibrox faithful will hope for the trend to continue.
