Balogun flops as 8/10 steals the show – Rangers player ratings v Dundee

Rangers fought back to secure an incredible 4-3 win at Dundee in a thrilling encounter at Dens Park.

The Gers trailed at the half-time break through goals from Simon Murray and Joe Shaughnessy, but found a route back into the contest as the latter scored an own goal.

The hosts restored their two-goal advantage with a Scott Tiffoney strike just after the hour mark, however, goals from James Tavernier, Tom Lawrence, and Cyriel Dessers secured victory for Barry Ferguson’s side.

Here, Ibrox News rates the Gers players out of 10.

Jack Butland – 4

Butland was at fault for the second Dundee goal as he dropped the ball into the path of Shaughnessy, but he made some crucial saves to keep the Gers in the contest.

James Tavernier – 7

Tavernier tried to drive his team forward and was a great presence when they did not have the ball, and produced a beautiful strike from range to get his side back into the game.

Dujon Sterling – 6

Got bullied in the build-up for the third goal, which was a huge blemish on an otherwise encouraging defensive performance for the 25-year-old.

John Souttar – 6

Souttar has earned plaudits for his Scotland displays recently, and he continued to be a rock at the back despite the scoreline, as he won nearly every duel that he contested and made numerous clearances.

Balogun endures miserable afternoon despite Rangers win

Leon Balogun – 2 (off for Hagi, 45)

Balogun struggled to influence the contest on the ball and had a nightmare defensively, winning zero ground duels and just two of five that he contested in the air.

Ridvan Yilmaz – 5 (off for Jefte, 60)

Solid from a defensive perspective, but struggled to influence matters in attack and was replaced by Jefte on the hour mark, with his attacking play a shambles.

Nicolas Raskin – 7

Raskin has been linked with a Rangers departure, and he showed the reasons despite his team’s poor performance as he won the majority of duels that he contested and constantly tried to make something happen when he had the ball.

Connor Barron – 4 (off for Rice, 45)

The 22-year-old was a constant presence in the middle but struggled to offer anything going forward and was hooked at half-time as a result.

Diomande shines despite Rangers struggles

Mohamed Diomande – 8 (off for Lawrence, 74)

Diomande was a rare positive for the Gers on this occasion as he created the most chances in the match (four) that his teammates could not put away and contributed defensively when he was required, making seven recoveries.

Hamza Igamane – 5 (off for Danilo, 64)

The Moroccan was a constant threat but could not influence the contest with a goal contribution to cap off a sensational week that has seen the Rangers star earn his first international cap.

Cyriel Dessers – 6

Dessers struggled to make the opposition pay for allowing him into shooting positions for the majority of the contest and had a strike ruled out for offside when he did finally find the net, but secured a 93rd-minute winner with a great dink over the keeper to forget the rest.
