Vaclav Cerny transfer bombshell: Rangers in £10m+ twist as deadline revealed
Rangers are running out of time to get a deal to sign Vaclav Cerny from Wolfsburg permanently across the line.
Cerny has been an influential figure for Rangers since arriving on a season-long loan from Wolfsburg last summer, bagging 17 goals and seven assists in 44 appearances across all competitions.
This has led to talk about the Ibrox outfit potentially making his loan move from the Bundesliga club permanent this summer.
Cerny has himself expressed his openness to extending his stay in Glasgow beyond this season and made no secret of his admiration for Rangers after Czechia’s 4-0 win against Gibraltar on Tuesday, 25 March.

Rangers have purchase option for Cerny
Speculation about Rangers wanting to buy Cerny has been doing the rounds for months, and it was claimed in January that Wolfsburg would sell him for £8million.
However, it has now emerged that the Light Blues have an option to secure the Czech international’s services permanently for a cut-price fee.
The Premiership heavyweights can sign the 27-year-old permanently for £5.5m as part of their original agreement with Wolfsburg, according to the Record.
Matches | Starts | Minutes | Goals | Assists | Yellow Cards | Shots Per Game | Pass Success % |
27 | 25 | 2103′ | 11 | 2 | 3 | 2.9 | 79.9% |
It would have to be triggered before the end of the season, though, as the newspaper reported via their website on Wednesday (26 March) that the deadline for the option is before the end of May.
That means Rangers only have a few weeks to decide whether or not they want to acquire Cerny’s services for the said price.
The left-footer’s price is expected to soar when the summer transfer window officially opens, with several clubs across Europe already closely monitoring his situation.
Wolfsburg and Cerny’s agents have also been made aware of this, meaning the Gers have to act quickly.
It is worth noting that the fee could more than double if Barry Ferguson’s side do not take up the option before the said date.

Cerny to stay at Ibrox
While £5.5m is a significant amount of money considering Rangers’ recent financial struggles, they are likely to be content to spend it to sign Cerny permanently.
However, they would not be able to do that until the takeover by a consortium led by Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe is finalised.
The takeover is expected to be completed by the end of April, which would give the new owners little time to get the deal for Cerny across the line.
Therefore, they are facing a race against the clock to sign the player for a cut-price fee.
