Tottenham told to pay over £20m for Rangers fan favourite

Rangers are standing firm on their prized assets judging by early reports ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

There is plenty to take place at Ibrox over the coming months including the anticipated US takeover, the managerial search and the long-term future of Barry Ferguson, and of course a massive squad overhaul – which seems to be tasked each summer as even more ‘massive’ than the last.

Several members of the squad will be considered dispensable to become fully competitive with Celtic next term, while others must be convinced to remain and be built around.

Rangers slap £20million-plus price tag on key forward

Based on recent reports, Rangers are looking to be far from lowballed for an international Ibrox star as interested clubs circle around their top performers in a largely bleak campaign.

One of these players is Hamza Igamane, who was almost single-handedly saving former manager Philippe Clement’s job at one stage. You can lead a horse to water, etcetera.

Rangers know they will have to bat off considerable attention towards Igamane, who they signed for just £2.5million last summer.

Everton are open admirers of the Moroccan – who has weighed in with some massive goals among his 14 so far this season – and now Tottenham Hotspur are the latest side credited with an interest, according to TEAMtalk (26 March).

Rangers fans will certainly have their backs up at the thought of former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou snagging Igamane – if he still has his job in North London by this point – and are understood to be reluctant to entertain any offers below £20million, which would be a massive profit to flip inside a year.

Igamane has lit up Ibrox at times

Igamane has been nothing if not an impact player. After a slow start to life at Ibrox, he came into his own when given the chance by Clement – a chance which became regular at the rate he was producing for the under-fire Belgian.

Under Ferguson, he has averaged fewer minutes, given just the final eight of the Old Firm trip to Celtic earlier this month.

Not a single fan remains in the dark over what he did – his impact was a goal that will live with the Rangers support forever, not least the 2,500 who had made a long-awaited return to the away end at Celtic Park after a two-year absence.

Igamane has not been the regular presence of James Tavernier, Jack Butland, Vaclav Cerny – but has been no worse either. The common contributors have their role; the exciting Moroccan forward has his. And Rangers certainly recognise that to be repelling some of Europe and the Premier League’s big boys with a £20million-plus price tag.

It could be a long and draining task to keep hold of the 22-year-old, despite his contract until 2029. But it could certainly be worthwhile for a player who has made his mark, and then some.
