Rangers new sporting director: Stuart Webber update emerges at Ibrox
Rangers are searching for a new sporting director and an update has emerged in their approach for former Liverpool chief Stuart Webber.
The Gers have been without a sporting director since Ross Wilson’s exit to Nottingham Forest in 2023.
Nils Koppen was appointed technical director at Ibrox earlier this season after joining the Light Blues in 2024 as director of football recruitment.
Former Norwich City chief Webber had been linked with the Light Blues in 2023, and now an update has emerged amid fresh links with him.

Webber hasn’t been approached by Rangers to be next sporting director
Webber hasn’t been approached by the Bears to be their next sporting director, according to the Rangers Review.
The news outlet reports (27 March) that a source close to Liverpool’s former director of recruitment insisted the Glaswegian outfit have not contacted him.
Team | Role | Year(s) |
Norwich | Sporting director | 2017–2023 |
Huddersfield Town | Director of professional football | 2015–2017 |
Wolves | Head of scouting | 2013–2015 |
QPR | Head of scouting | 2012–2013 |
Liverpool | Head of scouting | 2009–2012 |
Numerous names have been linked with the backroom role at the Gers as Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe of the 49ers Enterprises are poised to complete their takeover.
The Light Blues endured a few months of instability in the hierarchy before Patrick Stewart and Fraser Thornton arrived.

Ibrox hopes for stability under Cavenagh and 49ers
Webber will bring a wealth of experience to Ibrox if appointed the next sporting director.
The Bears desperately need to fill gaps in their leadership as they plan for the upcoming campaign.
Barry Ferguson is currently the interim manager at the Glaswegian outfit, and a decision has to be made on his future soon.
The Gers icon has given the incoming owners something to think about after beating Celtic 3-2 at Parkhead.
Ferguson will also lead the Light Blues against Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League quarter-finals after beating Fenerbahce in the previous round.
If the interim boss manages to get past the La Liga outfit, he will undoubtedly have earned an extension on his current deal at Ibrox.
The Bears need stability after a few years of mismanagement in the hierarchy, leading to financial instability.
Celtic are arguably miles ahead of the Gers right now, and getting a figure like Webber in soon seems imperative.
