Rangers new manager claim emerges as takeover gains steam
Maurice Ross has delivered his verdict on the next Rangers manager after Barry Ferguson’s interim stint ends.
The San Francisco 49ers look to complete their takeover within the next few weeks and will then make their decision on the permanent boss.
Thus far, no decision has been made about Ferguson’s future beyond the end of the season.

Paraag Marathe and co. need to make the right managerial appointment at Rangers
To ensure the 49ers hire the right manager, Paraag Marathe and co. will look to adopt a meticulous, strategic approach that aligns with their vision of elevating the club’s global standing.
The NFL giants will conduct a thorough recruitment process, leveraging their extensive expertise to identify candidates with proven leadership in high-pressure sporting environments.
This involves detailed interviews, performance data analysis and consultations with football experts familiar with Scottish and European leagues.
Rangers – last five permanent managers | Spell |
Philippe Clement | October 2023 – February 2025 |
Michael Beale | November 2022 – October 2023 |
Giovanni van Bronckhorst | November 2021 – November 2022 |
Steven Gerrard | June 2018 – November 2021 |
Pedro Caixinha | March 2017 – October 2017 |
Maurice Ross, a former Gers right-back, has delivered his verdict on the process and has backed Ferguson to get it permanently.
“It’s what the club and owners were looking for at that moment in time,” he told The Rangers Review.
“If you could feel Ibrox before Barry came in, it was getting edgy, and the fans were starting to turn, so I think the club were looking for a bit of buy-in from the fans so the takeover would go smoothly.
“His results have been good so far, just the energy of the football club, the fans have got a bit of pride back, I think Barry and his staff and the players have done very well so far.
“There is no exact manager you need, but what the club do need is investment in the playing squad.
“It’s about getting the takeover finalised… And then making a decision on who that’s going to be [the next permanent manager].
“If that’s with Barry at the helm, good luck to him.
“I like the vibe, and I like the energy that’s around the club at the minute.”
Background checks and references from previous roles are critical to assess adaptability and cultural fit, given Gers’ passionate fanbase and unique traditions.
Collaboration with existing Rangers stakeholders – such as the current board and Andrew Cavenagh – ensures the hire complements the incoming commercial overhaul while respecting the club’s heritage.

Rangers must get their next managerial appointment spot on
The ideal manager profile should blend tactical acumen with commercial savvy.
They need a track record of success, ideally in top-tier leagues or with clubs of similar stature, demonstrating an ability to deliver results under financial and competitive constraints.
Experience in possession-based, high-pressing football would suit Rangers’ aspirations to dominate domestically and compete in Europe.
Beyond tactics, the candidate must possess strong man-management skills to inspire a diverse squad and connect with the Ibrox faithful, much like NFL coaches rally teams and fans.
Given the 49ers’ involvement, a manager comfortable with data-driven decision-making and modern sports science would thrive under their infrastructure.
Charisma and media presence are also key, as the role demands navigating scrutiny while promoting the club’s growing international brand.
Ultimately, the 49ers should seek a dynamic, forward-thinking leader who can fuse Rangers’ legacy with their own professional ethos, driving success on and off the pitch.
