Steven Gerrard ‘best option’ emerges amid huge Rangers return talks
Steven Gerrard hasn’t had the best managerial career since leaving Rangers for Aston Villa in 2021.
The Liverpool icon struggled in the Premier League before joining Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq, where things didn’t go smoothly either.
Gerrard is being linked with a return to Ibrox after leaving Saudi Arabia, with the Gers’ prospective new owners eyeing him.
Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises will arguably have their own ideas on who the next manager will be once they complete their takeover at the Light Blues.

Rangers best option for Gerrard after recent struggles
Rangers are the best option available to Gerrard after his recent managerial struggles, Mark Guidi says.
The Scottish journalist believes the former England international is a possible contender for the Bears’ hot seat due to his history at the Glaswegian outfit.

Guidi thinks the Liverpool icon may not be able to do better than a potential return to the Light Blues after failing at Al-Ettifaq.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (24 March), the journalist said: “I think Gerrard is a contender because he’s been at the club, and it might be the best option he could get at this moment in time, going back to Rangers.”
Cavenagh and 49ers have big call to make at Ibrox
Barry Ferguson replaced Philippe Clement as interim manager, but what the future holds for the former Scotland international at Rangers remains to be seen.
The Gers icon has staked his claim to be the permanent head coach after beating Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers in a matter of weeks.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see the former Scotland international stay at the Light Blues for another season just to stabilise things.
Gerrard may be an enticing option at Rangers for Cavenagh and the 49ers, but the Ibrox faithful weren’t too pleased with the ex-midfielder after he left.
The Bears have a ready-made option in Ferguson, who boasts the likes of Billy Dodds, Allan McGregor and Neil McCann in his backroom staff.
While the US consortium might want an established manager leading the team once they arrive, the interim manager has done well enough to be considered for the role.
Gerrard possibly knows he can’t get a better job than Rangers, but it could be a gamble as his reputation has taken a dip in recent years, leading to scrutiny from fans.
