Rangers gave Issame Charai assurances after Philippe Clement sack

Issame Charai has remained at Rangers despite Philippe Clement being sacked at Ibrox earlier in the season.

Charai, 42, was only appointed by the Light Blues in January and saw the Belgian head coach being relieved of his duties after inconsistent performances this season, and the exit from the Scottish Cup at the hands of Queen’s Park was one of the final nails in the coffin.

Charai was subsequently handed the reins at the Gers for some time before Barry Ferguson was eventually appointed interim manager at Ibrox.

While the former Scotland international has made a case to be the next permanent head coach after beating Celtic 3-2 at Parkhead, it remains to be seen what the future holds for him and Charai at the Glaswegian outfit.

Charai assured he was part of Rangers plans as Ferguson appointed

Charai was assured he was part of the plans after the Bears sacked Clement, according to the Rangers Review.

The news outlet reports (25 March) that the Belgian-Moroccan football coach hasn’t been marginalised after Ferguson arrived at Ibrox.

It has been claimed Clement didn’t have a say in appointing Charai, and the Gers personally picked him to add a different perspective to the backroom staff.

The Belgian-Moroccan football coach signed a three-and-a-half-year contract in January, showcasing the faith Rangers have in him.

Ferguson to remain at Ibrox with Charai

Rangers have had their issues in the Scottish Premiership this season as they sit 13 points behind Celtic in the league table.

The Gers’ domestic season has all but come to an end after being knocked out of the Scottish Cup, leaving them without much to play for except their pride.

Seeing the Light Blues turn up was encouraging as they gave Brendan Rodgers’ team something to think about at Parkhead.

Rangers have the Europa League to look forward to, though, but Athletic Club will make it difficult for them in the quarter-finals.

The Bears got the better of Jose Mourinho, but the La Liga outfit will be a different kettle of fish and getting past them will undoubtedly put Ferguson in the driving seat to become the next permanent manager at Ibrox.

With the Glaswegian outfit’s ownership situation uncertain, with Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises poised for a takeover, what will the future hold for the interim boss and Charai?

Rangers have big decisions to make next summer, and it will be interesting to see what direction they take.
