Mark Warburton eyes ‘Rangers partnership’ after controversial exit

Mark Warburton wants to possibly reignite his relationship with Rangers after his controversial exit from Ibrox a few years back.

The Englishman was the Gers boss between 2015 and 2017 before a seemingly unceremonious departure from the Glaswegian outfit.

Warburton has now landed a new role as a director for American outfit Sporting Club Jacksonville, overseeing decisions at the men’s, women’s and youth teams.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises are in talks to complete a takeover at the Light Blues, and a new partnership has already been presented to the US consortium.

Rangers partnership with Sporting Club Jacksonville eyed

Sporting Club Jacksonville would be fortunate to partner with Rangers or Celtic, Warburton says.

The former Gers manager has revealed that with every club now looking for better connections, being tied up with someone like the Bears would be great for the newly formed American outfit.

Warburton believes it’s only a matter of time before steps are taken to have an established side like the Glaswegian outfit associated with the USL team.

Speaking to The Scottish Sun (25 March), the Englishman said: “Every club in the world is looking for bigger recruitment talent, bigger player pools. It’s about creating player pathways. I can see how partnerships work, and of course, any partnership has to be two-way.

“When you talk about major British clubs, Rangers and Celtic are global institutions with global fan bases. So absolutely, you would be very fortunate to partner with these types of clubs. It’s only a matter of time before it’s taken forward.”

San Francisco 49ers and Cavenagh to start new era at Ibrox

Rangers have seen their prospects in the Scottish Premiership dwindle since winning the title a few years back.

Steven Gerrard was the last manager to lift the league trophy at the Gers and they have since struggled to compete with Celtic.

Philippe Clement was replaced by Barry Ferguson at Ibrox earlier this year, and the interim boss has changed the hostile atmosphere around the Light Blues.

The former Scotland international could potentially be handed the reins permanently at Rangers after what he has been able to achieve in recent matches.

Ferguson knocked out Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce from the Europa League before beating Brendan Rodgers at Parkhead in the Old Firm derby.

The Bears haven’t had the best recruitment strategy in recent years, making underwhelming signings and getting rid of quality players for next to nothing.

Rangers struck gold with Hamza Igamane but need to unearth more such gems as they arguably can’t financially compete with Celtic at the moment.

A potential partnership with Sporting Club Jacksonville could provide the Glaswegian outfit with an avenue to recruit more promising talents.
