Ferguson shares takeover concern after what he’s seen happen at Ibrox

Rangers are going through a period of change, with a new manager potentially incoming and new owners also set to take control.

Barry Ferguson is putting up a case to be appointed at Ibrox permanently, while the ownership situation is quietly ticking along behind the scenes.

49ers Enterprises, led by Paraag Marathe, and Andrew Cavenagh are looking to purchase at least 51 per cent of the Ibrox club.

It will make for an exciting new era at Rangers, but supporters have been warned they risk potentially scuppering any deal.

Rangers charged by UEFA for fan banner

UEFA did not take kindly to a banner unfurled by fans prior to the recent Fenerbahce tie at Ibrox, which is set to land Rangers a fine.

The banner read: “Keep woke foreign ideologies out. Defend Europe.”

Journalist Alison McConnell recently suggested Cavenagh may be put off investing in Rangers as a result of the message on the banner, having been in attendance at Ibrox.

And Gers-mad pundit Derek Ferguson, himself a regular at Ibrox, understands that viewpoint as he warned supporters off doing something similar in the future.

“It can sometimes be a bit unsavoury in terms of the chants and banners,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.Just keep the banners at bay – it’s only going to do damage.

I get people wanting to make a point, but I don’t think – and I’ve always felt this – a football club shouldn’t be a vehicle for that.

Some people will disagree, others will agree, but sometimes the best way forward is to not do anything that will hurt Rangers Football Club.

It happens at grounds up and down the country, but they have to be careful with stuff like this. We don’t want anything that’d hurt Rangers and the takeover.

Hopefully it doesn’t have an effect on the guys that were there, and I don’t think it will. Lesson learned, it’s done and let’s hope the punishment isn’t severe.”

Rangers takeover hopefully close to completion

Chris Jack recently reported that the Rangers takeover will go through by May at the earliest, while a completion date of June or July has also been mentioned.

Supporters will be desperate for the takeover to go through ASAP, but it is a process that can take plenty of time.

Ultimately, while Cavenagh may not have been impressed by the banner, hopefully he saw enough passion from the fanbase to want to proceed further.
