Rangers set for Scottish FA fine with firmer punishments on cards at Ibrox

Rangers could be in hot water again very shortly, despite their powerful statement released from Ibrox in recent days.

The Ibrox giants condemned scenes at Ibrox in their Europa League win over Fenerbahce, which led to two charges from UEFA for throwing objects and displaying banners.

The huge 3-2 win over Celtic followed on Sunday, with away fans returning to pyrotechnics being let off and players getting carried away in celebrations.

Rangers in Scottish FA trouble

Vaclav Cerny risks a multi-game ban after spraying home fans with water, and Dujon Sterling could be investigated for his comments on social media.

Dan Plumley has warned that the Scottish FA will be investigating all the incidents separately, with a fine the first step on a long ladder.

The football finance expert admits that firmer punishment is possible, with Rangers themselves even potentially handing out bans to those found guilty of wrongdoing.

“It was always the risk,” Plumley exclusively told Ibrox News.

“Everybody wanted the fans back in for this derby, I get that entirely, but the risks come, it’s always going to be like that with this type of game.

What you tend to find happening at the moment, usually there will be an investigation conducted by the Scottish FA, and that will lead to any likely punishment they deem fit.

I think, normally, with instances with the ones we’ve seen, that is potentially looking at a fine in the first instance, but if it keeps happening and the severity ramps up, then there is firmer punishment as well, and the clubs can take action as well.

It has to be like that nowadays, and we want the fans in the ground, but it’s likely you’ll get an investigation and then fines and punishment are deemed as necessary by the governing body and the clubs directly relating to bans.”

Rangers secure bragging rights over Celtic in Old Firm

It has been years since Rangers fans have been able to celebrate consecutive Old Firm victories, so even forgetting about the Scottish Premiership title, this was huge.

Celtic may have had the majority of the ball, but Barry Ferguson has transformed his Rangers side to have a more ruthless edge than they did under Philippe Clement.

Scottish FA punishment or not, it is about picking these sorts of results when they are handed the ball to dominate themselves, rather than counter.

Time will tell what is heading towards Ibrox, whether financial punishment or more.
