Billy Gilmour sends message to Rangers star after what he did away from Ibrox

Billy Gilmour remains in touch with some Rangers players after leaving Ibrox eight years ago.

Gilmour rose through the ranks at Rangers but joined Chelsea in 2017 before he could make his senior debut for the Glasgow giants.

The midfielder has since gone on to play for Norwich and Brighton before moving to join Napoli in Serie A last year.

However, that is not to say the 23-year-old is not associated with Rangers in any way anymore, as he notably tipped his hat to Liam Kelly after he made his Light Blues debut in the 1-0 win against Dundee in December.

Gilmour reacts to what John Souttar did

Gilmour has now sent a message to John Souttar after he impressed in Scotland’s 1-0 victory over Greece in the UEFA Nations League play-offs on Thursday, 20 March.

Souttar notably followed up his triumphs over Fenerbahce and Celtic with Rangers with a solid performance for the Tartan Army, helping them keep a clean sheet.

The 28-year-old then took to social media to express his joy, sharing pictures from the win to his 70,000 followers on Instagram (21 March).

Gilmour was among those who reacted to the pictures as he posted two brick wall emojis, referring to the centre-back rock solid performance at the back.

Former Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson also responded by liking the post.

Souttar impresses away from Rangers

Souttar was among a host of impressive performers for Scotland against Greece despite only having 44 touches, which was the lowest among any outfield player who played 90 minutes.

He completed 28 of his 31 passes with 90 per cent accuracy while playing two accurate long balls from five attempts, implying his intention to help the Tartan Army attack.
