Rangers transfer budget revealed amid new 49ers takeover update

Rangers are set to make new signings once the summer transfer window opens in June.

By then, the San Francisco 49ers are expected to complete the takeover and become the majority owners.

Relevant paperwork has been filed with the NFL giants set to finalise the deal and take charge of the club.

Ibrox set for a big-spending transfer window

It is going to be a big summer at Ibrox as there will be new owners in charge as well as potentially a new manager.

Currently, Barry Ferguson’s deal at the club runs out at the end of the season as he was brought in on an interim basis.

TEAMtalk reported on 19 March that sources have told them that the 49ers will back the first team with a strong transfer budget to help them compete.

The takeover offers the American side a pivotal opportunity to revitalise the Scottish club, particularly through a robust transfer budget in the summer.

Rangers have struggled to keep pace with rivals Celtic, who benefit from consistent Champions League revenue, widening the financial and competitive gap.

A strong transfer kitty would enable Gers to sign high-calibre players, addressing critical gaps in their squad – like a dominant midfielder or a reliable striker – essential for challenging Celtic’s dominance and excelling in European competitions.

The 49ers’ financial muscle, proven through their methodical investment in Leeds United, could transform the Ibrox outfit into a powerhouse, leveraging their regular UEFA competition access for growth.

Paraag Marathe and co must also make backroom changes at Rangers

Equally crucial are backroom changes to streamline transfers and that’s something Paraag Marathe and co must pay close attention to.

Rangers’ recent transfer windows have lacked cohesion, often failing to secure transformative talent due to inefficiencies in scouting, negotiation, and decision-making.

The 49ers’ data-driven approach, led by Marathe, could overhaul recruitment, ensuring a strategic, unified process.

Aligning the backroom staff with a clear vision, similar to their Leeds success, would maximise the transfer budget’s impact, fostering sustainable progress and restoring Rangers’ stature in Scottish football.
