Tam McManus adamant as Rangers issued advice over Cerny fallout at Celtic Park

Vaclav Cerny remains the most talked about man in Glasgow some two days on from Rangers’ Old Firm triumph against Celtic.

Rangers ace Cerny is at the centre of a Police Scotland probe after spraying water in the direction of home supporters at Celtic Park.

The Czechia international further riled home supporters after Hamza Igamane had struck to earn Rangers a 3-2 victory against their fierce rivals on Sunday (16 March).

Cerny faces extended ban after Celtic incident

While many see only the funny side of the incident, Cerny could be hit with an eight-game ban by the Scottish Football Association, who are themselves looking into it.

The fact that Wolfsburg loanee Cerny is facing a possible ban, plus potential police action, means this has all of a sudden become a lot more serious than first anticipated.

However, in the view of pundit Tam McManus, the incident has been blown massively out of proportion and the matter should instead be quietly dealt with by Rangers.

“Should Cerny have ‘skooshed’ water over the Celtic fans? NO,” McManus wrote on his personal X account [18 March]. “Should the Police be getting involved? NO.

“I would like to think someone at Rangers would have a quiet word with him to tell him you can’t do that here, especially in this fixture. That should be the end of it.”

Old Firm fallout continues

Mohamed Diomande is another potentially in hot water due to the manner in which he celebrated his goal at Celtic Park.

The authorities will no doubt look into each incident, on what was a day to remember for the Gers, before reporting back.

Rangers fans will have their fingers crossed that no suspension is forthcoming for Cerny, especially not one that would effectively bring an end to his time at Ibrox.

There may be two weeks between matches for the Gers, but at least this time around supporters head into the international break on a rare high.
