Rangers walk on SFA punishment tightrope after what Diomande did v Celtic

Mohammed Diomande was among the goal scorers for Rangers in their Old Firm derby win over Celtic on Sunday.

Gers managed to secure a famous 3-2 win away from home at Parkhead on Sunday, 16 March.

Hamza Igamane scored just before stoppage time to ensure his side secured the three points.

SFA punishment possible after Mohammed Diomande celebration against Celtic

Diomande was among the pick of the players for Gers once again and he celebrated scoring against Celtic on Sunday.

However, according to the Scottish Sun, the celebration was of a controversial nature.

The 23-year-old pointed his fingers at the Celtic fans as he gestured firing a gun, while he covered his face.

This celebration puts his side at the risk of punishment from the SFA who have taken action against similar incidents in the past.

Ryan Kent did something similar back in 2020 against Celtic and that led to the Scottish footballing authority issuing a fine to Rangers and did the same thing after Alfredo Morelos’s gesture as well.

Barry Ferguson clears yet another audition to get the Rangers job permanently

The decision whether or not a punishment will be dished out, is the SFA’s call and not something Brry Ferguson needs to worry about.

Instead, he can celebrate a famous win, arguably the biggest one of his managerial career.

Having been given the job on an interim basis, if he wants it full-time, he’s clearly doing everything right to prove he deserves it.

He even guided them past Fenerbahce to make it to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League, beating an iconic manager in Jose Mourinho.

It remains to be seen how he does in the coming two months, but if he can finish close to Celtic in the league and clinch European silverware, it would be hard to bet against him being given the job permanently.
