Pat Nevin blasts Rangers star after what happened v Celtic – ‘Terrible’

Rangers beat Celtic 3-2 in the Scottish Premiership, but one player left Pat Nevin baffled on Sunday.

Barry Ferguson made one change at Parkhead, with Ridvan Yilmaz replacing Jefte in the starting lineup.

Nicolas Raskin scored for the Gers in the fourth minute before Mohamed Diomande doubled their lead before the break, but Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate scored in the second half for the hosts.

Hamza Igamane secured the three points for the Bears with a wonderous striker, but while the Light Blues were impressive in the first half, Vaclav Cerny left Nevin scratching his head after a “terrible” decision.

Cerny moment terrible in first half of Rangers win v Celtic

Cerny made a terrible decision in the first half against Celtic, Nevin said.

The former Scotland international couldn’t believe the Czech international delayed a shooting opportunity to double the Gers’ lead after Kasper Schmeichel’s error at Parkhead.

Nevin was baffled by the 27-year-old’s decision to hold on to the ball instead of firing a shot into the back of the net.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound (16 March), the Scotsman said: “Why didn’t he hit that four times? I can’t believe he doesn’t just put it towards the goal. Terrible, terrible decision.”

Ferguson beats Celtic at Parkhead

Ferguson had a chance to stake his claim at Rangers by beating Celtic, and he did exactly that.

The Gers icon replaced Philippe Clement recently, and the Belgian manager beat the Hoops 3-0 in his last Old Firm derby in charge of the Bears.

Rodgers boasts one of the most dominant records against the Light Blues, but he has now lost two in a row.

While the Gers seemingly have nothing left to play for domestically, sitting 16 points behind their arch-rivals ahead of the game at Parkhead, the players were playing for pride.

The current interim boss knows all about the meaning of the Old Firm rivalry and would have evidently imposed the importance of the match at the Gers.

Ferguson has the Europa League to look forward to, as they face Athletic Bilbao in the competition’s quarter-finals.

The Bears beat Fenerbahce in the last-16 as the tie went to penalties at Ibrox in what was a nail-biting finish to the fixture.

Cerny has been influential for the Glaswegian outfit this season, but that moment could have put the tie to bed and things could have been different had Igamane not scored.
