Kris Boyd hits back at Brendan Rodgers over comment on Barry Ferguson at Rangers
Kris Boyd was ecstatic after Rangers earned a 3-2 victory over Celtic at their own ground in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.
Rangers claimed the bragging rights in the latest iteration of the Old Firm derby as they emerged victorious at Celtic Park on 16 March.
Barry Ferguson’s side found themselves under immense pressure after Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate nullified Nicolas Raskin and Mohamed Diomande’s first-half goals.
Celtic smelled blood after they blew away the Gers’ two-goal lead, but Hamza Igamane stunned the Parkhead faithful by grabbing the winner with just two minutes to 90.

Boyd pleased with Rangers aggression v Celtic
Therefore, Ferguson forced Brendan Rodgers to eat his own words after saying he had not seen a “great change” in Rangers under the interim manager.
There was no way Boyd was going to pass up on the opportunity to rub salt into Celtic’s wounds as he brought up Rodgers’ comments in the Sky Sports studio after the game.
Team | Matches | Wins | Draws | Losses | Goal Difference | Points |
1. Celtic | 30 | 24 | 3 | 3 | 69 | 75 |
2. Rangers | 30 | 19 | 5 | 6 | 34 | 62 |
The pundit insisted that the Hoops manager will surely have seen a difference in the Ibrox outfit, having witnessed their aggression under Ferguson live.
“Brendan Rodgers spoke about how he hadn’t really seen a lot of difference from Rangers”, Boyd said on Sky Sports Main Event (16 March, 2:56 pm).
“He did today because that was an aggressive team coming across you. Just went and pressed, asked questions of Celtic.
“Yes, they came out in the second half and did okay, but in the first half, Rangers were levels above Celtic.”
Ferguson forces his way into 49ers contention
Rangers appointed Ferguson as their manager until the end of the season in February after sacking Philippe Clement.
They have seemingly held off on appointing a permanent replacement for the Belgian tactician until the summer as they are in the midst of a takeover led by Paraag Marathe of 49ers Enterprises and healthcare mogul Andrew Cavenagh.
The US consortium has reached an agreement in principle to finalise the takeover with due diligence and paperwork remaining.
Many expect the new owners to bring in a new manager when they finally come to power in Govan, but Ferguson may have forced himself into contention after leading Rangers to the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals and winning his first Old Firm derby as their manager.
