Chris Sutton rages at player after ‘Scandalous’ moment in Celtic v Rangers

Rangers go in at the half time break 2-0 up in the Old Firm derby at Celtic Park on Sunday.

An early header from Nico Raskin nestled into the bottom corner to give the Gers the advantage with just four minutes gone at Parkhead.

Jack Butland made a phenomenal save to keep out Reo Hatate just minutes later as the Light Blues managed to see the half out thanks to a Mohamed Diomande strike.

With the result going against his former side, Chris Sutton has been left fuming by one particular incident which summed up the Hoops’ first half display.

Sutton rages at Kasper Schmeichel v Rangers

Considering how large the gap is between the two sides in the Scottish Premiership, Barry Ferguson’s side looked far the better side in the opening 45 minutes.

The defensive structure, in a back three, certainly got the best out of the away side despite only netting one in the first half.

This allowed the Gers to counter attack and get the better of the Celtic defence on multiple occasions, especially as they looked to play out from the back.

This tactical approach didn’t pay off on many occasions, one of which saw Schmeichel hand Vaclav Cerny a golden opportunity to double his side’s advantage.

The former Hoops striker was left baffled on Sky Sports Football (16 March, 12:47pm), as he said: “That’s scandalous from Schmiechel, he’s way off with that pass. I just wondered if Cerny could have taken the shot on earlier? It was on his right foot.”

Rangers deserve lead v Celtic

There is no doubt that the Light Blues are fully deserving of their advantage going into the break at Parkhead.

Ferguson’s men have been superb and although Butland has made multiple key saves, the Gers have been good value for their lead.

After waiting so long for away fans to be allowed into an Old Firm game, it is fair to say that it was worth the wait for the Rangers supporters.

It will certainly be interesting to see if this performance level can be maintained moving into the second half and whether the Govan club can continue their showing.

The Bears have already done themselves proud in the first half and just have to match their own effort level once the whistle blows for the second half.
