Paul Merson staggered at ‘Unbelievable’ Rangers and Celtic reveal on Sky Sports
Rangers may have a major gap to make up on Celtic, but Kris Boyd rightly pointed out it was not long ago the shoe was on the other foot.
The Gers find themselves 16 points behind their Glasgow rivals heading into the Old Firm clash on 16 March.
The Scottish Premiership title is probably a foregone conclusion with just nine matches left to play.

Paul Merson stunned by Rangers reveal
Paul Merson was astonished as he found out the margin of victory when the Gers last won the league under Steven Gerrard in the 2020/21 season.
Speaking on Sky Sports News (15 March, 13:07 pm), he said: “25 points, Rangers-Celtic, Celtic had won it how many times before that?”
Boyd replied saying: “Nine”
Merson was aghast, saying: “Nine and they won it by 25 points, wow.”
Boyd responded reminding him that they were unbeaten in that campaign and Merson could not believe it, saying: “Wow, that is unbelievable.”

Steven Gerrard could return to Rangers
The former Liverpool captain could make a stunning return to Ibrox at the end of the season, with Barry Ferguson in interim charge at the moment.
Gerrard would bring the feelgood factor back to Auchenhowie just like Ferguson has in his short time in charge after the dismal reign of Philippe Clement, which led to the Belgian being sacked in February.
Stats | Wins | Draws | Losses | Points |
Gerrard | 76 | 21 | 10 | 249 |
However, a return to Scottish football for the Liverpudlian would not be a simple as just coming back and overhauling Celtic straight away.
The squad is nowhere near the quality of the one that he built and while there are gems like Hamza Igamane, Jefte and Clinton Nsiala, the Govan club’s recruitment strategy needs significant improvement when the 49ers takeover is completed.
Also, the gap to Celtic is arguably bigger than when Gerrard first took charge of the Light Blues. It will be a long process to catch them – it will not be a silver-bullet solution bringing their former manager back, despite his previous success.
The 44-year-old may struggle to replicate his first stint north of the border after poor stints in the Premier League at Aston Villa and at Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, which may have reduced his confidence.
The Gers have to get their next appointment right, otherwise they will be even further back in their quest to catch Brendan Rodgers’ side and Gerrard would be a risk, regardless of his reputation and his pas achievements.
