Kris Boyd opens up on ‘impossible’ task Barry Ferguson faces at Rangers

Barry Ferguson can be more than happy with his start to life as caretaker Rangers manager, but there is one aspect that he will find “impossible” to deal with.

The Gers legend is in interim charge at Ibrox after Philippe Clement was handed his marching orders in February.

Ferguson has secured passage to the Europa League quarter-finals and has the chance to turn a dismal campaign into a very successful one.

Boyd names ‘impossible’ challenge for Ferguson at Rangers

Gers legend Boyd believes that Ferguson will struggle to implement his methods fully in Auchenhowie before the end of the season.

He opened up on the struggle that elite players face when they turn their hand to management and believes the ex-Light Blues ace will have that problem.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (15 March, 12:57 pm), he said: “I think that is where a lot of top players struggle.

“A lot of times when you’re elite and you go into management it is totally different, you expect players to do things you can do, it’s impossible.

“I’ve seen him destroy top clubs in European football; to try and pass that over inside such a short space is difficult.”

Ferguson can secure permanent role with Europa League success

If Ferguson somehow manages to win the Europa League, surely he will be rewarded with a permanent position in the dugout at the end of the season.

The Light Blues legend has brought the feelgood factor back to Ibrox after Clement had drained supporters with the abysmal performances on the pitch that has led to them being 16 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership heading into Sunday’s Old Firm clash (16 March).

The likes of Steven Gerrard and Derek McInnes have been linked with role but if Ferguson wins the competition, surely the 49ers cannot replace him once they complete their takeover in the summer.

It is vital that they make the right decision as taking a punt on the wrong man would only set the club back in terms of their attempts to catch up with Brendan Rodgers’ domestically.

It will already be a long process to catch their Glasgow rivals but getting the manager call wrong will make it even longer as the club will have to repeat the process all over again, as they have had to do with he Belgian’s departure.

If Ferguson can mastermind a remarkable success, it will go from being a terrible Rangers season to one of their greatest, and surely the 49ers will struggle to bring in an alternative as the fans will not be satisfied.
