Steven Gerrard to ‘accept’ Rangers return as new update emerges

Steven Gerrard has been linked with the Rangers job as Barry Ferguson is only there on an interim basis.

After the club sacked Philippe Clement, rather than hiring a permanent replacement, they opted to go for a temporary replacement.

However, they do want to replace Ferguson with a new permanent manager in the summer

Scott Arfield claims Steven Gerrard would be open to a Rangers return

Scott Arfield has admitted that he thinks Gerrard would be open to returning to Ibrox.

He told TNT Sports, as quoted by the Daily Record: “He was the man that brought the league title back here, so he is always going to get that.

“He has got an amazing repertoire, and he has got a connection with the fan base. I think his name was always going to be there, but I think you could do a lot worse than Steven Gerrard.

When asked if he would accept the job, Arfield said: “I think he would, personally.”

Re-hiring Gerrard as manager could bring significant advantages, blending proven success with renewed ambition.

His tenure from 2018 to 2021 delivered the club’s first Scottish Premiership title in a decade, ending Celtic’s dominance with an unbeaten 2020-21 season, showcasing his ability to galvanise a squad and instill a winning mentality.

Gers fans would love Steven Gerrard’s style of football

His tactical acumen, favoring a high-pressing 4-3-3, could elevate their European standing further and it’s something the fans would enjoy and he’s also won multiple individual awards as a manager.

Gerrard’s global reputation, bolstered by his Liverpool legend status, would attract higher-calibre players while re-energising the Ibrox faithful, whose support he famously harnessed.

His prior success navigating Rangers’ financial limitations, turning modest investments into title-winning assets, suits the club’s ongoing budget constraints.

Since leaving for Aston Villa in 2021, Gerrard’s stint in the Premier League and subsequent role at Al-Ettifaq have sharpened his adaptability and man-management, skills critical for a squad needing stability after Ferguson’s interim spell.

Reappointing him could also mend his abrupt exit’s lingering sting, restoring trust with fans and board alike.

His unfinished business at Ibrox – chasing more trophies and European glory – makes this a compelling reunion, potentially steering Rangers back to domestic and continental prominence.
