Steven Davis reacts to John Souttar after Rangers Europa League win v Fenerbahce

John Souttar played the full 120 minutes as Rangers beat Fenerbahce to qualify for the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday.

Rangers risked crashing out of the Europa League after Fenerbahce nullified their two-goal lead from the first leg through a Sebastian Szymanski double in either half of the second leg at Ibrox on 13 March.

However, heroics from Jack Butland after extra time saw Barry Ferguson’s side win the subsequent penalties 3-2, with the goalkeeper saving Dusan Tadic and Fred’s spot-kicks.

For all the disappointment they have faced at domestic level, the Light Blues now have the opportunity to progress further in the Europa League when they face Athletic Bilbao in the quarter-finals in April.

Steven Davis thrilled by Rangers win v Fenerbahce

Souttar was by no means a standout performer for Rangers over the two legs, having been booked in both games, but was nevertheless a reliable presence at the back for Ferguson.

Like many of his teammates, the centre-back took to social media to express his delight at booking a place in the Europa League quarter-finals on Friday, 14 March.

Despite not being a heroic figure like Butland, Souttar invoked reactions from his followers, with Steven Davis among those to chime in.

The Ibrox favourite joined in on Souttar’s joy by posting a blue heart emoji, while former Rangers youth player Kenny Mclean commented with a clapping emoji.

Ex-Leeds United captain Liam Cooper was also among those who reacted to the post.

Ferguson eye upset over Celtic at Parkhead

Rangers cannot afford to rest on their laurels after beating Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce as they have an Old Firm derby against Celtic at Parkhead coming up on Sunday, 16 March.

With the Bhoys leading the Premiership by 16 points, a win against them at their own ground is unlikely to help the Light Blues ignite a comeback.

However, it could boost Ferguson’s chances of earning a chance to become the permanent manager of Rangers when his contract as the caretaker expires.
