Rangers takeover: Andrew Cavenagh finally breaks silence after win v Fenerbahce

Rangers are edging closer to having their US-based takeover confirmed.

Rangers’ penalty shootout victory against Fenerbahce last night finally brought some optimism back to Ibrox after what has been a dull season otherwise.

Exits from both domestic cups, matched by their league position, has heaped the pressure on the Light Blues to achieve success through the Europa League.

While performances on the pitch are what people see, the lack of investment and poor decision-making of those above has been the main driving force behind the regression at Ibrox over the last few seasons, though that looks to change with the 49ers’ takeover.

Cavenagh holding back after Rangers question

Cavenagh is in line to play a crucial role in the Rangers takeover, and was in attendance at Ibrox last night to see the Light Blues progress through to the quarterfinals of the Europa League.

After the game, Cavenagh was quizzed on the progression of the takeover, though he remained tight-lipped while wearing a wide smile.

In a video shared by Sky Sports Scotland on X (14 March), Cavenagh was asked if he was close to completing the takeover, to which he replied: “Great match tonight, just here to support the club.”

His response may not be very telling, but his body language and the fact that he was in attendance should provide optimism for the Gers supporters.

Rangers have plenty of hope at Ibrox

Not only did their win against Fenerbahce provide optimism in terms of finishing the season with some success, but the progression of the takeover is good news.

For far too long now, Rangers have looked incapable of keeping up the pace with Celtic, though through proper investment and smart decisions, they can certainly get back to that position with ease.

As for now, Rangers have two things left to concentrate on; the upcoming Old Firm derby, and their quarterfinal encounter with Athletic Bilbao in April.
