Nedim Bajrami transfer: Rangers ‘to cut losses’ as summer exit on cards

Rangers may sell Nedim Bajrami for a bargain price in the upcoming transfer window after what’s happened this season.

The Gers signed the 26-year-old from Sassuolo last summer for £3.4million, but he has since struggled to stake a claim in the starting lineup.

Bajrami came on as a substitute as the Light Blues beat Fenerbahce on penalties at Ibrox in the Europa League last-16 on Thursday (14 March).

The Albania international started off brightly at the Bears but has been underwhelming in recent months, leading to questions about his future.

Rangers to sell Bajrami for cut price next summer

Bajrami should be sold by the Glaswegian outfit next summer, Chris Jack says.

The Scottish journalist believes the Gers need to cut their losses on the 26-year-old and cash in on him in the coming months.

Jack wants to see the Albanian attacking midfielder sold soon and has told the Light Blues to move him on.

Speaking on the Rangers Review (14 March), the journalist said: “I think they have to try and get as much back for [Bajrami] as they can in the summer. You just have to cut your losses. You thank him for his efforts, and you move him on.”

Ibrox underwhelmed by Bajrami impact this season

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Bajrami leave Ibrox in the upcoming transfer window after his poor displays this season.

The Gers spent a considerable amount of money on the 26-year-old but have failed to reap any rewards from his addition to the squad.

Vaclav Cerny showed his importance after scoring a brace against Fenerbahce at the Ulker Stadium in the first leg on 6 March.

The 3-1 win in Istanbul was pivotal as the Bears managed to get to the quarter-finals of the Europa League despite Jose Mourinho’s team scoring two goals in Glasgow.

Ianis Hagi’s contract at Ibrox expires at the end of the season, and whether the Romanian star will extend his stay remains to be seen.

Cerny will also go back to Wolfsburg after his loan spell expires this summer, which will deplete the Gers’ squad depth.

While Bajrami has arguably failed to make the impact required this season, the Light Blues may be forced to keep him to maintain strength in attack for next season.

The Ibrox faithful may want to see the Alabanian ace leave if his transfer could fund Cerny’s permanent arrival.
