Andrew Cavenagh jets into Rangers after huge new takeover update at Ibrox
Rangers host Fenerbahce in the second leg of their Europa League last 16 tie at Ibrox on Thursday, while the 49ers’ proposed takeover of the club remains ongoing.
The Light Blues enjoyed an impressive 3-1 win over Fenerbahce in Istanbul last time out, thanks to Cyriel Dessers’ opener and a brace from Vaclav Cerny.
A draw, or even a narrow defeat, would do for Rangers as they look to book their slot in this season’s Europa League quarter finals.
If Barry Ferguson’s men progress to the last eight, they will meet either Serie A outfit Roma or Spanish side Bilbao.
Andrew Cavenagh set to attend Rangers v Fenerbahce as VIP
Andrew Cavenagh is the main man behind the 49ers’ increasingly imminent takeover of Rangers, and attended the Light Blues’ victory in Istanbul last week.
The Daily Record have reported that the American tycoon will be given VIP treatment when the Gers take on Fenerbahce at Ibrox on 13 March.

Cavenagh previously attended Rangers’ 3-1 win over St Johnstone in January, and sat alongside the head of 49ers Enterprises and Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe during last month’s Europa League encounter with Manchester United.
49ers representative Gretar Steinsen was also present as the Light Blues defeated Fenerbahce last week, and is set to accompany Cavenagh, who has jetted into Glasgow.
It’s reported that the 49ers’ takeover of the Ibrox club is now in the hands of teams of lawyers and is set for legal rubber stamping.
Rangers will be keen to put on a show at Ibrox vs Fenerbahce
The Gers appear set to reach the quarter finals of the Europa League, after their impressive progress in the competition continued with their win in Istanbul last week.
But despite their notable European exploits, the Light Blues are currently enduring a woeful campaign domestically, and sit a whopping 16 points behind league leaders and bitter rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm clash.
Rangers also lost out in the League Cup final to Celtic via a heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat in December, before being dumped out of the Scottish Cup by Championship outfit Queen’s Park.
The Ibrox side have subsequently lost both of their last two matches on home turf, including a 2-0 defeat to St Mirren on 22 February, which cost former boss Philippe Clement his job, as he faced the sack.
Contrastingly, the Light Blues have not suffered a home defeat in the Europa League since a 4-1 loss to Lyon all the way back in early October.
Rangers will be looking to put their domestic woes to one side once more on Thursday night, and put on a performance which will impress both supporters and Cavenagh, ahead of a huge takeover.
