Ally McCoist hits back at what Alan Brazil said about new Rangers manager

Rangers will be considering their options over their next permanent manager to take over from Barry Ferguson at the end of the season.

After the disaster that was the tenure of Philippe Clement, the Light Blues will certainly be eager to learn from their previous mistakes.

However, if the 49ers can complete their takeover of Rangers, then potential managerial appointments could look more exciting, going hand in hand with a new era in Glasgow.

Alan Brazil digs at Ally McCoist in managerial claim

Ferguson has only overseen three games as Rangers manager so far but seems to be showing signs of improvement.

A 3-1 victory over Fenerbahce in the Europa League showed big steps in the Gers team, not least because of the attitude of the players to keep at it throughout the game despite being dominated.

While the interim boss may feel as though he may be showing the reasons why he would be deserving to stay on past the end of the campaign, his lack of experience isn’t in line with the expectations at Ibrox.

Therefore, the question on Glaswegian minds is who could come to the helm in the hope of progressing forward with the Gers.

When asked the question of who he would like live on talkSPORT (12 March, 7:47 am), Ally McCoist admitted: “Too late now and you’ll think I’m jumping on the bandwagon because I think they got beat last night but Frank Lampard, I think Frank.”

However, Alan Brazil hit straight back as he replied: “What are you talking about? He’s not going to leave Coventry for Rangers.”

McCoist defended his view though as he said: “No, I’d have said before Coventry, I’m not getting involved in that silly nonsense. In fact, move on.”

Rangers takeover to change everything at Ibrox

Although Brazil was taking an opportunity to dig at McCoist and Rangers, at this moment in time, his view probably isn’t far off, as the Gers sit in a tough position on and off the pitch at Ibrox.

It certainly highlights why Ferguson was brought in as the interim option, as trying to find a permanent manager up to the required levels to make the move to Ibrox would take longer to do.

However, if the 49ers can complete their takeover deal, it would make the opportunity at Rangers a much more attractive one with the backing to be able to progress as well as the ambition to push forward.

As McCoist pointed out, it probably wouldn’t be an ideal time to go after Lampard, given he has only recently joined Coventry and is going fairly well there.

But, the Rangers man has no reason not to aim his expectations to this higher level with better times set to be ahead at Ibrox.
