Mohamed Diomande exit: ‘One to Watch’ as European clubs plot Rangers raid

Mohamed Diomande has been a revelation for Rangers this season.

The Gers have endured a dismal campaign that reached a nadir when Philippe Clement was sacked following a 2-0 home loss to St Mirren (22 February).

However, the Ivorian has been a rare positive for Light Blues supporters and they will be desperate to keep him around at Ibrox.

Rangers ace Diomande attracting interest across Europe

The Gers may struggle to keep hold of their major stars in the summer with the likes of Hamza Igamane and Jefte attracting interest from the Premier League.

A report from TEAMtalk (11 March) claims that Diomande is the latest Bears ace to feature on the radar of clubs in Europe.

It states that clubs in Spain and Italy are seriously interested in the 23-year-old and could be “one to watch” when the transfer window reopens.

Diomande could hand Rangers a tidy profit

The Ivory Coast midfielder joined the Auchenhowie outfit after an initial loan deal from FC Nordsjaelland in January 2024 which was made permanent due to a £4.3million obligation to buy in July.

He has featured 27 times in the Scottish Premiership this season, notching three goals and five assists, a much-improved return of the two goals he bagged in 13 appearances last campaign.

He has also played a key role in the Govan outfit’s sensational Europa League run, featuring in every single match apart from the Manchester United defeat, for which he was suspended, adding a goal and an assist to his tally.

If the interest from European clubs is acted upon and the Gers decide to cash in on the likes of Diomande, Jefte, and Igamane in the summer, they could fetch a sizeable profit from their investment.

It would also fit in with a better recruitment model of finding hidden gems and selling them for large fees, which would ultimately benefit the club in the long term, giving them more financial stability and more to invest in the playing squad.

Then they can rinse and repeat the process and eventually catch arch-rivals Celtic domestically as well as continuing to thrive on the European stage.
