Kevin Muscat doubts emerge as Rangers appointment explored
Kevin Muscat may not be the next Rangers manager, despite fans wanting the Shanghai Port manager back at Ibrox.
The former Australia international spent a season at the Gers during his playing career and began his managerial stint just after retiring in 2011.
Muscat was snubbed for Philippe Clement in 2023 but still seemingly remains a popular figure among the supporters.
Barry Ferguson is in charge at Ibrox until the end of the season, and whether he will be given the role permanently remains to be seen.

Rangers appointing Muscat as manager doubtful
Muscat’s return to the Light Blues as the next permanent manager seems doubtful, Keith Jackson says.
The Daily Record journalist understands why the Ibrox faithful would want the Shanghai Port head coach’s name to be re-explored at the Gers.

Jackson doesn’t believe the 51-year-old, who was at Yokohama F. Marinos before going to China, will return to Glasgow at the end of the season.
Speaking on Hotline Live (10 March), the journalist said: “I can understand why there will be Rangers fans that liked the idea of Muscat last time around that would be keen to see it re-explored. But I would find that doubtful.”
Ferguson permanent appointment at Ibrox unlikely
Ferguson’s stock at the Bears has only risen after beating Fenerbahce 3-1 in the Europa League at the Ulker Stadium on 6 March.
It would be surprising to see Jose Mourinho’s team turning things around at Ibrox on 13 March, and progress in the European competition will be an impressive feat for the interim boss.
While Ferguson’s name will be high up on the list as the next permanent manager, Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers may have other ideas once they complete their potential takeover.
The Gers icon is accompanied by Billy Dodds, Neil McCann and Allan McGregor in the Glaswegian outfit’s dugout, but they don’t have much managerial experience.
Ferguson was at Clyde FC, Kelty Hearts and Alloa Athletic before being handed the job in the Ibrox dugout.
The Light Blues have had an underwhelming season, and their inconsistency has been frustrating for the supporters.
In the interim manager’s first two games in the Scottish Premiership against Kilmarnock and Motherwell, the Gers’ defensive frailties were on display.
If the Bears manage to lift the Europa League title at the end of the season, only then should Ferguson be in the discussions to remain at Ibrox.
