Todd Cantwell sends message to Jack Butland in four Rangers Instagram posts
Jack Butland has been inundated with messages from Todd Cantwell amid a spree of Rangers-related posts from the former Ibrox man.
Cantwell departed Rangers late in last summer’s transfer window following an acrimonious stand-off with then-manager Philippe Clement, which saw the Englishman almost completely frozen out in Govan.
Blackburn Rovers came calling on 30 August with a £500,000 fee which Rangers were happy to accept, and despite the circumstances in which he left Ibrox, it’s clear Cantwell retains fondness for the Bears.
Cantwell and the Belgian clearly didn’t see eye-to-eye during their time together, but with Clement following him out the Ibrox doors six months later, the midfielder has again been active on social media.

Todd Cantwell shares Jack Butland admiration in Rangers post
While Cantwell was seen as surplus to requirements at Ibrox last summer and eventually left for the EFL Championship, Butland was the only player whom Clement saw as indispensable in his Rangers squad.
Player | Period at Rangers | Appearances | Starts | Goals | Clean Sheets |
Todd Cantwell | 2023 – 2024 | 64 | 54 | 14 | – |
Jack Butland | 2023 – present | 96 | 96 | 0 | 38 |
Cantwell has also expressed his own fondness for the Rangers goalkeeper on his 32nd birthday, with Butland being the focus of four straight Gers posts by Cantwell via his Instagram story on Monday.
Cantwell, who tagged Butland in two of the posts, said: “Happy birthday to my brother. Company like no other – thank you for always doing my chores.”
Todd Cantwell’s Rangers thoughts clear after social media spree
While Cantwell wishing his compatriot Butland a happy birthday is no great surprise, the jovial and joking nature of his posts suggests that the two struck up quite a good relationship in their time at Rangers.
Moreover, Cantwell also posting a fairly random Gers goal – a volley he scored against Aberdeen in May 2023 – on his story, suggests that he looks back on his time at Ibrox with a huge degree of happiness.
Things certainly didn’t end well for Cantwell at Rangers amid criticism of both his on-field displays and social media usage, but those waters have sinced calmed and he’s more than happy to show his love.
Clement being a thing of the past at Ibrox doesn’t necessarily open the door for Cantwell to make a surprise return, but Rangers fans will still be happy to see him championing their cause whenever he can.
