Rangers told to hire psychologist to reveal ‘unexplained Ibrox phenomena’
Rangers have been urged to hire a psychologist to address their struggles in the domestic season this term, while they sit 16 points adrift of Scottish Premiership leaders and bitter rivals Celtic.
The Light Blues have suffered three home defeats on the bounce, including a Scottish Cup upset at the hands of Championship outfit Queen’s Park, followed by a 2-0 loss to St Mirren which cost Philippe Clement his job.
But under the stewardship of interim boss Barry Ferguson, Rangers’ Ibrox woes continued when they suffered a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Motherwell on Saturday 1 March.

Rangers told to hire psychologist after continual issues
The Light Blues are no longer able to win a domestic trophy this campaign, after suffering a heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat to Celtic in December’s League Cup final before subsequently being dumped out of the Scottish Cup by Queen’s Park.
Brendan Rodgers’ side also hold an unassailable lead over the Ibrox club in the Premiership, ahead of an Old Firm clash at Celtic Park on Sunday 16 March.
Rangers’ last four results | Opponent | Result | Competition |
22/02/2025 | St Mirren (H) | 0-2 L | Premiership |
26/02/2025 | Kilmarnock (A) | 2-4 W | Premiership |
01/03/2025 | Motherwell (H) | 1-2 L | Premiership |
06/03/2025 | Fenerbahce (A) | 1-3 W | Europa League |
But alongside their dreadful domestic campaign, Rangers have been performing admirably well in the Europa League, and achieved a 3-1 win over Turkish giants Fenerbahce during their Round of 16 first leg tie on Thursday 6 March.
Hugh Keevins wrote in the Daily Record: “The difference between the shambles that is Rangers when they play in the Premiership or the Scottish Cup, and the team who compete in Europe, is clearly beyond understanding where normal football people are concerned.
“It’s a matter for a behavioural psychologist or whoever else is best equipped to deal with unexplained phenomena.”

Rangers have a big opportunity in the Europa League
The Ibrox faithful will fondly remember the 2021/22 Europa League campaign in which their side reached the final of the European cup competition, despite missing out on the Scottish Premiership title to Celtic by four points that term.
Rangers supporters will be dreaming that their side can achieve a similar feat in the Europa League this season, or even go one better than they did in 2022.
Such an eventuality would appear to be unlikely, given the Gers’ struggles in the Premiership and Scottish Cup this term, but the Ibrox outfit have looked superb at times in Europe this season.
Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce had no answer to Rangers in Istanbul last week, as the Light Blues clinched a 3-1 lead from their first leg tie.
Ferguson’s men will rightly fancy their chances of reaching the quarter finals, and anything could be possible for them if they successfully navigate the challenge posed to them by either Roma or Bilbao in the last eight.
