Cyriel Dessers Rangers exit: ‘Every top club in Turkey to fight for transfer’

Cyriel Dessers was in fine form as Rangers defeated Fenerbahce on Thursday.

The 30-year-old opened the scoring in the Gers’ 3-1 Europa League win over Fenerbahce and had two goals ruled out.

The Nigeria international has been in fine form at the Ibrox club with 10 goals in his last 10 matches in all competitions after being linked with an exit in the winter window.

Rangers star Dessers tipped for Turkey move

Former Real Sociedad and Turkey star Nihat believes that Turkish clubs should be lining up to sign the Light Blues after his performance against Jose Mourinho‘s side.

Dessers was always causing havoc for the Fenerbahce defence and could have had a hat-trick on a different day.

In quotes reported by the Scottish Sun (7 March), he said: “Let’s be honest here – it should have been 5-1 and if Cyriel Dessers’ shoulder wasn’t as muscly, it would have been.

“Every top club in Turkey should be fighting to sign him.”

Dessers turnaround has been brilliant

The Nigeria international had fallen down the pecking order under Philippe Clement with the emergence of Hamza Igamane significantly limiting his playing time.

That led to plenty of speculation surrounding the former Cremonense man’s future in Glasgow, with Italian and Spanish clubs interested in his services.

His goalscoring record was questioned regularly but he stuck his head down and continued to work on the training ground and put in performances when he was called upon.

He worked his way back into Clement’s plans and has been on a sensational run of form beginning with the 3-0 win over Aberdeen (15 January) when he scored in a one-minute cameo.

A hat-trick against Fraserburgh in the Scottish Cup followed before he struck against Manchester United and Dundee United.

He then went three games without a goal but has notched a goal in all three of Barry Ferguson’s games in charge including a brace in the first against Kilmarnock (26 February).

The Light Blues will be delighted with the return and the decision to not allow him to leave looks like a rare positive in a dismal campaign for the Auchenhowie outfit.

If Dessers can fire the Govan club to the Europa League trophy then it will look even better and potentially bring more suitors to the table in the summer, ready to make a deal, maybe including Turkish clubs.
