Chris Sutton immediately reacts to Rangers win v Fenerbahce
Chris Sutton has made a shock claim after Rangers picked up an impressive 3-1 win against Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday.
There was plenty of doubt over the experience of Barry Ferguson, but he guided his side past Jose Mourinho in the first leg of the round of 16.
Goals from Cyriel Dessers and Vaclav Cerny were enough to seal a healthy lead ahead of the return leg at Ibrox next week, with other clubs south of the border struggling.

Sutton offers Scottish football comparison
After a disastrous season otherwise, Rangers knew there was pressure going into their game against Fenerbahce with a result needed.
It was not a dominant performance from Ferguson’s team, but they laid it all on the line to huge success as they battle for their only remaining piece of silverware on offer.
Team | Possession | Shots | Shots on target |
Rangers | 36% | 8 | 6 |
Fenerbahce | 64% | 23 | 7 |
Tottenham and Manchester United were both in action in the Europa League too, but their away trips ended far less impressively.
Former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou did not come away so happy as his Spurs side lost their game against AZ Alkmaar 1-0 thanks to an own goal.
After the game, Sutton wasted no time to take to X (6 March) and make a comparison as he said: “Scottish football showing English football how to play in Europe…”

Rangers need to get Ibrox rocking for Fenerbahce home tie
Rangers will certainly be delighted with their victory against Fenerbahce and it puts Ferguson’s men into an excellent position going into the home tie on Thursday (13 March).
Nevertheless, there is no denying that there will still be plenty of work to do given how the game unfolded tonight, albeit to great success.
With that in mind, supporters will need to make sure they make Ibrox a difficult place for the opposition to visit to create an atmosphere that encourages the side to go and get another strong result.
As Sutton says, it is Scottish football that has come out looking much better after Thursday’s Europa League action and the Light Blues can take their motivation from different places to spur them on.
For any Ferguson doubters, the worries will surely have been put to rest after the first leg and certainly will have to be in Rangers can pull off something similar at Ibrox next week.
