Stewart slammed for ‘astonishing thing’ he did to Clement before Rangers sack
Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart made the unsurprising decision to sack Philippe Clement in February.
The Belgian had begun to grate on the Light Blues faithful as the performances of his side continued to get worse as the season went on.
It appeared to be the final straw when the Gers fell to defeat against Queens Park at Ibrox but somehow the Belgian remained in his job.
This didn’t last as the 50-year-old faced the axe just two games later after another frustrating home defeat against St Mirren which has now been called into question.

Gordon Dalziel questions Stewart after Clement sack
It is fair to say that the Gers had fallen so far behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership that the season had begun to lose meaning.
Their Old Firm rivals have continued their excellence while the Govan club have continued to falter, showing a general lack of inconsistency throughout the campaign.
Position | Team | Played | Won | Drawn | Lost | GD | Points |
1 | Celtic | 29 | 24 | 3 | 2 | +70 | 75 |
2 | Rangers | 29 | 18 | 5 | 6 | +33 | 59 |
With that being said, the Europa League form for under the ex-Monaco boss was one of the few bright sparks of the season as wins against Nice and FCSB combined with a draw against Tottenham gave supporters some hope.
This gave the Clement boss some tokens to remain in his role but was sacked regardless, which has seen Dalziel question the actions of the Light Blues’ CEO.
Speaking live on Clyde One Superscoreboard (4 March), he said: “The astonishing thing is that Patrick Stewart said that he didn’t want to upset the European campaign, that’s why they kept the manager after the disastrous result against Queens Park and then days later got beaten by St Mirren and he’s gone.”

Rangers issues continue to persist at Ibrox
There is every chance that the Govan club are set to enter a new period under 49ers Enterprises which may solve a lot of their problems.
With that being said, until that takeover goes through, the issues that are currently on show are only going to continue and if anything, will continue to get worse.
Barry Ferguson has come in and hasn’t necessarily had the desired impact, which has seen Stewart continue to come under fire.
It was the CEO who ultimately makes the big decisions at Ibrox and has to be accountable for backlash from such actions.
It appears that Paraag Marathe wants him to remain in his post even if the new owners come in but there is no doubt that the Light Blues faithful are beginning to lose an element of patience with the former Manchester United chief.
