Rangers need help as Gabby Agbonlahor shocked at latest Ibrox development
Gabby Agbonlahor could not get his head around what he saw from Rangers last weekend as he was left believing help is desperately needed.
Rangers fans the world over are hoping the 2024-25 campaign comes to an end as soon as possible, with Rangers having nothing to play for domestically despite the calendar only being five days into March.
An embarrassing exit from the Scottish Cup to Queen’s Park and 2-0 Premiership loss to St Mirren proved to be the end of Philippe Clement’s spell in charge, but things have barely improved since.
Interim manager and Ibrox legend Barry Ferguson may have won his first match in charge at Kilmarnock, coming back from 2-0 down to win 4-2 at Rugby Park, but the Light Blues weren’t so lucky on Saturday.

Agbonlahor reacts to Rangers loss v Motherwell
Rangers failed to build on the momentum of their comeback in Ayrshire upon returning to Ibrox at the weekend, suffering a dismal 2-1 loss to Motherwell to make it three home defeats on the spin.
Date | Opponent | Competition | Result |
9 February | Queen’s Park | Scottish Cup | Rangers 0-1 Queen’s Park |
22 February | St Mirren | Premiership | Rangers 0-2 St Mirren |
1 March | Motherwell | Premiership | Rangers 1-2 Motherwell |
With the takeover of 49ers Enterprises lingering in the background at Ibrox, Agbonlahor gave his verdict on the defeat. Speaking on talkSPORT (5 March, 6:21am), he was shocked by what he’d seen.
Agbonlahor said: “They lost didn’t they, lost on the weekend again, Rangers. I couldn’t believe it. They were 2-0 down at one stage – they need a bit of help, don’t they.”
“Unbelievable”, Alan Brazil bluntly responded.

Rangers in need of reset as Ibrox form collapses
Rangers had previously managed to keep themselves in the Premiership title race thanks to Ibrox being impregnable on the domestic front; their form away from home allowing Celtic to build a lead at the top.
That, however, now seems a long time ago, with three home defeats on the bounce and a record of three straight away wins since late January seeing that frustrating record flipped on its head.
The Gers’ nadir against Queen’s Park and then St Mirren proved to be the two final straws for Clement’s tenure, but Saturday made clear that the ‘new manager bounce’ under Ferguson has been brief at best.
The 49ers’ arrival can’t come soon enough in the eyes of Rangers fans, but after their total surrender to Celtic in the title race this season, it remains to be seen how soon Ibrox can become a fortress again.
