Rangers blasted for ‘Shambles’ Nedim Bajrami transfer despite Ferguson plea

Rangers have been blasted for wasting money on Nedim Bajrami in the summer transfer window despite what Barry Ferguson had said.

The Gers signed the 26-year-old for £3.4million from Sassuolo last summer, but he has struggled to make a mark this season.

Bajrami has struggled for game time at Ibrox after failing to get into the starting lineup on a regular basis due to his inconsistent performances.

The Albanian midfielder has started on the bench in Barry Ferguson’s first two matches in charge of the Light Blues, and it remains to be seen whether he will feature for them against Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday (6 March).

Bajrami a waste of money for Rangers as central midfielder needed

Signing Bajrami was a waste of money by the Glaswegian outfit last summer, Mark Guidi says.

The Scottish journalist slammed the Bears for signing the 26-year-old despite Ferguson highlighting the need for a new central midfielder back then.

Guidi isn’t surprised to see the Gers struggling this season after making shambolic decisions in the boardroom, especially with Ianis Hagi at the start of the campaign.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (4 March), the journalist said: “Bajrami, what an absolute waste of money. And I highlighted it at the time. What Rangers were doing as a business, they had Hagi on their books but couldn’t agree a compromise with the contract to get back involved with the first-team.

“You then sign Bajrami for £3.4m when you’re crying out; what did Ferguson highlight [on Go Radio] time and time again before the [summer] window closed, we need a central midfielder. You need more experience. You can’t rely on Raskin, Diomande and Barron.

“What did they do? They spent £3.4m on a Hagi-type. A week after they spend that money, they make peace with Hagi and bring him back. You look at the decisions being made by the hierarchy; it’s been wild. So off course. It’s no wonder they are where they are. An absolute shambles.”

Ferguson will not rely on Bajrami at Ibrox

Ferguson has had a tough start to life as the Light Blues’ interim manager, losing 2-1 to Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership at home in his second game in charge.

The Gers icon seems to be already regretting his decision to accept the role at the Glaswegian outfit, considering the issues in the team this season.

Philippe Clement was sacked at Ibrox as most players failed to show up when it mattered most, as was evident during the Queen’s Park loss in the Scottish Cup.

The Belgian manager seemed to be getting back on track at the Bears after a slow start to the season, but it wasn’t meant to be for him.

After just a couple of weeks in charge, Ferguson has seen the Light Blues’ inconsistency first-hand.

The interim boss will hope the players will put their best foot forward at the Ulker Stadium against Jose Mourinho’s team.

There will undoubtedly be a massive reckoning at the Glaswegian outfit at the end of the season once the 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh complete their potential takeover.

How Bajrami will last at Ibrox if he doesn’t start performing well remains to be seen.
