Rangers-49ers takeover to be ‘put to bed’ after huge developments

49ers Enterprises’ takeover of Rangers took a step closer this week after new developments emerged from Ibrox.

The consortium led by 49ers Enterprises chief Paraag Marathe and ParetoHealth chairman Andrew Cavanagh have agreed a deal in principle to take a controlling stake in the Govan outfit.

Due diligence and legal paperwork is set to be completed in the near future to bring new investment to Auchenhowie in an exciting move for Gers supporters.

49ers Rangers takeover needs to be done quickly

Former Blackburn Premier League winner Colin Hendry wants the Gers to complete the takeover quickly so that they can focus on other matters.

In a column in the print edition of Daily Record (page 49, 5 March), the former Gers star said: “The sooner it is done the better, if it is going to happen.

“It’s one more thing that can be put to bed and people can concentrate on other things.”

Rangers takeover still leaves issues at Ibrox

The takeover will not solve all of Rangers’ issues but it will bring an end to the constant shareholder fighting that has held the club back in recent years.

That should allow for a smoother transition and a quicker turnaround in fortunes as there is more likelihood of agreement rather than arguing when it comes to improvements to the playing squad.

That is in need of several upgrades with the gap to Celtic unlikely to be bridged anytime soon without a significant outlay on top-quality talent.

Another issue is the status of interim manager Barry Ferguson, should the Govan club continue with him in the dugout in a permanent role or bring in an outsider with no previous knowledge of the internal workings of the Ibrox outfit.

They could bring back Steven Gerrard but he may not be as successful given the state of the squad, the issues behind the scenes at the moment and his struggles after leaving Auchenhowie

Getting the manager question right is probably the most important job for the new ownership once they are through the door, if they fail to appoint the right man, it could set to club back further in what will already be a lengthy process to get back to the summit of Scottish football.

However, it is an exciting time for the Gers supporters and the 49ers will have their full backing to turn things around.
