Rangers cannot make Hagi mistake as ‘sensational’ transfer claim made
Rangers may be forced into making a tough decision about the future of Ianis Hagi after a fresh transfer claim has emerged from Ibrox.
The Romania international has been a major talking point in Glasgow since the start of the season when Philippe Clement refused to play him due to the wage hike he was set to receive after his 100th appearance.
Since then, terms have been negotiated to allow the attacking midfielder to play and at times, he’s become a key player for Rangers, even in their darkest moments.
However, with Hagi’s contract set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, many European clubs have already been linked with an interest in the midfielder with a Romanian legend believing the best future for Hagi lies away from Ibrox.

Mutu thinks Hagi should exit Ibrox for the Turkish Super Lig
Genoa are one of the teams who have been heavily linked with a move for the attacking midfielder with the Serie A outfit putting him on their wishlist in the winter transfer window.
However, it isn’t the Italian side that former Chelsea player Adrian Mutu thinks Hagi should move to as he thinks the grass is likely to be greener for the attacking midfielder in the Turkish Super Lig.
Competition | Games | Goals | Assists |
Scottish Premiership | 19 | 3 | 7 |
Scottish Cup | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Scottish League Cup | 1 | 0 | 0 |
Challenge Cup | 1 | 1 | 0 |
With Fenerbahce already considering making a move for the 26-year-old in the summer and, while Mutu didn’t name a team he should join, he still believes it would be a “sensational” move for him, especially if he wants to follow in his dad’s footsteps.
“On a media level, it would be crazy if he went to Turkey, after what Gheorghe Hagi did there,” he said in quotes relayed by The Herald (3 March).
“Ianis has been to Italy before, he didn’t manage to establish himself there.
“But it wouldn’t be bad for him to end up in Turkey because his father is super-loved there. “In fact, it would be a sensational move for Ianis.”

Hagi cannot be allowed to exit Ibrox
In a season that has been full of dismay for Rangers, one of the worst things that could still happen is Hagi choosing or being allowed to leave on a free transfer.
Since he was reintroduced to the first team, he’s been a key creative force for Rangers and has helped transform their attack more than once.
While goals from Hamza Igamane have now seemed to slow down, that doesn’t mean Hagi has stopped creating and even netting a few of his own.
With the minimal amount of money that the Ibrox outfit have made with their transfers over the last couple of seasons, allowing Hagi to leave on a free should not even be a thought in Patrick Stewart or Nils Koppens‘ mind.
But at the end of the day, the best thing for them to do would be to keep him and build their team around him next season.
